The Marion County Genealogical Society did have the 1881 History of Marion and Clinton Counties book republished within the last year, I think it was. It was MUCH cheaper than the price offered for an original. Also the reprinted version has a name index and it is my understanding that the original had no name index. Clinton Co. Gen. Society had some for sale too. I don't know if either has any copies left or not. It is a large hard-cover, very nicely done book. Also don't forget to check with the nearest FHC library (Mormon Church history libraries). They have these books like this on film. The History of Marion and Clinton Counties by Brink McDonough is film # 928,154, item # 5. Brinkerhoff's History of Marion County is film # 1,000,502, item # 3. You can check the FHC website http://www.familysearch.org for their catalog and then go to Illinois and then view related topics and get Marion Co. or whatever county you want. It will indicate whether it is a film or a book. If it is a film, you can usually order it, unless your local FHC already has it on permanent loan. Once you take a look at the film, you can see if you would like to have a copy of the book. I use mine over and over. I find lots of little interesting bits of information about my ancestors. Happy searching for your ancestors. Dot
