Hi Steve Yes I have some info for your Coursons and Shanafelts and yes the Marion co Historical society is still active. Do you have any specific questions on these 2 lines. I have a copy of a Shanafelt book by Laura shanafelt Powell that takes that line back to about 1745 in Germany. I will have to dig in the files to see what I actually have on your Coursons. J. Hi-- That was fast! I've been doing Courson research, off and on, since 1975. Are you related to one of these families? Maybe Shanafelt? I wonder if Laura's book is still available? I've got quite a bit of the immediate Shanafelt info from a variety of sources, but continue to try and add to the overall picture by getting information on the extended families of my direct ancestors. The big question of course, is what happened to Benjamin Courson, who was married to Elizabeth Shanafelt, both of whom lived in Marion Co. by the mid-1800's. I've never found a trace of Benjamin after they moved to Marion Co. But I'm interested in any information you might have, and especially on the Coursons. I'd be happy to exchange information. I've got about 3700 names in my Family Tree Maker, and several photos of the Coursons back to Noah Tilford. I'm not sure if we are suppose to post responses here so everyone can follow this thread. If not, someone can let me know. Many thanks. Elizabeth is living with Catherine Merrit and her children in the 1870 census of Marion co. It is very strange that I did not find any Coursons in the index of the 1860 census. I will have to look at that one again :-( Ray --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
