    3. Hi Meg ... I, personally, can't answer your question, but if your ancestors were coalminers, you may also want to try the Rootsweb mailing list designed specifically for coalminer. You can subscribe at COALMINERS-L-request@rootsweb.com. Good luck on your research! 3. I am looking for the death certificates, birth certificates, marriage records etc, of those family members who are buried at Old Bethel. I am assuming that they would have attended the Old Bethel Presbyterian Church when it stood there with the cemetery. I am hoping that the church records survive some where. Or is the church still standing and in use there? I have not been there to look. I am curious though. 3. IF the person actually died in Marion County -- sometimes they don't die where you think they should have -- and Marion County doesn't have it you can get it from the state. Death certificates from 1916 on can be obtained from the state. I believe you have to know where they died to obtain one from the state though. 3. I have been looking for death certificates in Marion county for 1898, and 1877 and even 1959, with no luck. I was told that the county health department holds many of the records and that there might be more success there for some of the certificates I'm looking fir, but by and large, I have not been able to find death certificates for that time period. The cemetery information in the Marion County cemetery books is incorrect on several of my family members, so you have to watch your sources very carefully, especially where there are several individuals with the same name living in the same town. Most of the family members I am looking for were buried in the old Bethel Cemetery. I am trying to find out if the Presbyterian Church ever stood there , and if anyone knows where their records may have gone. If your family members where buried in a churchyard and you can find the records, you may have more luck. Hope you have better luck than I did. 3. Death certificates were not mandatory then. I don't know if one exists and if it does what it would say. They vary dramatically. Someone might be able to tell you their experience with Marion County during that period. Just as a point of information, the details on death certificates are provided by a possibly unreliable source. There is no guarantee that the person providing the information really knew the information given. I've seen many death certificates with incorrect information. It is not uncommon for children not to know their mother or grandmother's maiden name or where she was born for example. That death certificate would NOT be one the ISGS will get for you.
