Nancy I didn't know I was on Roots Web to do look ups or anywhere else for tht matter. I just do them sorta by word of mouth. You know I see someone looking for a certain name and I go search everything I have and send them that then someone sees it and asks for something and so forth and so on but I do belong to the IKK and we take a week to work on each person's brick wall it has really helped me too. Right now with richard's eye surgury and his triple bypass last Feb., I have nly been doing certain lookups for a week or so but will be in Salem anyway and there so it is no problem and hope I can help you get them Sandy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Scott" <teddysrn@msn.com> To: <ILMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2003 12:43 AM Subject: Re: [ILMARION] Centralia Cemeteries > The rootsweb site so poor Dot doesn't have to do all of Book Two. The rootsweb site so poor Dot doesn't have to do all of Book Two. Are you listed there for Book 3 look-ups? I have thought about getting book 4, just for lookup purposes for others, no personal need. If you know of any other sites that you could add me to for the book 2 lookups, just do it. Dot was how I found all my family in Kinmundy when I first started looking for them. Oh, I'm grateful, grateful, oh so grateful. Will mail you check for whatever you need as soon as you email me. Hope you can find something about where John Michael came from in Bavaria on something. He was considered one of the prominent citizens of Kinmundy in his time. My other g.g. granddad, Charles Wetter owned confectionary, then grocery store, then saloons there. Saloon corner was called Wetter's corner for many, many years. J.M. died suddenly of a heart attack on Nov. 14, 1895 at 49, think there might be an obit hiding somewhere. Ask your favorite "guru"! I plan to be buried beside him at Evergreen someday. Have a driving need to find out all I can. Nancy I also have cemetery book 3 and am wanting the rest of them but that's neither here nor there. LOL. I am going to print your email out and take it to Salem with me tomorrow and will either go to the courthouse tomorow or Wednesday. Tomorrow is bill paying day so will probably wait until Wednesday and will also see if Harold can help me a little to see what we can find on microfilm. He is such a wonderful help and makes me think of a human genealogy book because he seems knows all about this stuff. Anyway if I can get them from the courthouse, do you want me to go ahead and get copies. They were $9.00 each and now I think they raised them to $12.00. Not sure but think that is what Harold told me. I paid $9.00 last one I got . Don't know why they won't let you get a uncertified copy but they won't anymore. Let me know and I will see what i can do > Sandy, > I am a member of the society also and have Cemetery Book 2 (Kinmundy, > Meachum, Alma & Omega and would be glad to do look-ups if you can add me to > the web-site. Sandy, I am a member of the society also and have Cemetery Book 2 (Kinmundy, Meachum, Alma & Omega and would be glad to do look-ups if you can add me to the web-site. My great grandparents, John Michael Brenner & Dora Wetter Brenner were married in Salem by J.P. on Sept. 11, 1877. Marriage was recorded in ss#143, Volume OOD, Page 117, according to Illinois Marriages Records that I found on IL state web-site. Could you call the County Clerk's office and find out if they would have a certificate and/or the application for marriage? I would be glad to send a check for whatever. I have been unable to find anything that shows where in Bavaria he was born. He owned Brenner lumberyard in Kinmundy and a great deal of property along with my great, great grandfather, George L. Brenner. They settled in Kinmundy 1866-67, and Geo. died in mid 1895, followed by John Michael (age 49) in Nov. 1895. Great grandma, Dora, grandpa John George, and great aunt Mae C. remained till 1912. Mae married Charles Fenster, son of Gottlieb Fenster, one of the early settlers also. They were married in Kinmundy on June 8, 1897 and was recorded in Book E, Page 56, Line 104, but when I was up there last Oct., I asked for a copy of the marriage license, but they couldn't find it. Did not know where it was recorded at the time, though. Think I could find out anything now? I have heard of a book with the marion county historical society, but have not actually seen it and I dont belong to the society. There is no real office located at the cemetrey to inquire either, which would truely be helpful to so many. I live about a mile from the cemetery and have located a few people for them, but it's not easy as I estimate the cemetery covers roughly 10 acres. It is fairly well kept , mowed often by the city etc. The main is there is no real map of sections posted to help even if one finds this information in the book. I cannot make explicit promises except to say, if anyone too far away to be able to visit the cemetery and they would like to post specific names to me, I will try as Im able to to look for them. Vut try and be as specific as possible as , I said earlier it is fairly large. I would be glad to help as I can, If Im able to locate them I would be happy to take a snapshot for free for you. I have had so much help in Kentucky with this type of thing, I know how much it can mean to get the help. Sincerely, Brenda
Hi Listers! I'm trying to locate the parents of William & Ernestine (Georgie) BLOCK. They both came from Germany to America around 1880. The 1880 census shows them in Peru, IL, then in 1900 they lived in Ottawa, IL, then 1910-1920 census shows them living in Centralia, IL. I was wondering if some kind soul could look-up their obituaries for me or at least lead me to where the proper newspaper would be archived. Thanks in advance! I was searching for my ggrandfather, THOMAS G. MILLER, who is buried in Elmwood Cemetery. Every holiday a small American flag appears on his grave and I was interested and wanting to thank who ever was responsible for this. Someone on this list found his service record for me. He served in the Union army from 25 June 1841 Company E 22 Infantry and was mustered out 07 July 1864. I am not familiar with the GAR and would be interested in knowing more about your organization. Thank you. If you go to The USGenweb.com and click on states projects and then on counties in Il. and then on Marion County, there is a listing of cemeteries in Marion County. However, the two largest, Elmwood and Hillcrest, are have not been put on line. Maybe, you will find what you need in one of the other cemeteries. Also, some of the cemeteries has email addresses and there are people who will help you. I know this isn't the answer you hoped for and neither is it the answer for me, but maybe it will help someone. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Janstpls@aol.com> To: <ILMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 01, 2003 12:25 PM Subject: Re: [ILMARION] Centralia Cemeteries > I think that they have index at Elmwood............am sure I saw a container > there..............Jan > > > ==== ILMARION Mailing List ==== > To unsubscribe from the ILMARION List if you are in mail mode, send to > ILMARION-L-request@Rootsweb.com.
