Diane I know this is not the answer to your question but it might be a clue. A tree that I got from the Alsup list shows her as Effie J. Alsup. This list does not give dob or dod just the years. J. Hi, Does anyone have the book Marion County, Illinois 1870 Census by Maxine Wormer? I need a few lookups from this book. Would appreciate it! Diane Payne
I'm still having trouble e-mailing to you at both addresses...they keep bouncing back. I did get those documents & they are great! The Footprints article that Dot Bellmer sent to me said that Charles Becker went by Baker (that's how he was listed in the Censuses, too), so finding them as Becker was interesting. Charles D. was Charles R.'s uncle, so that makes sense and he was working for his nephew in the circus. I'm going to have to find out what happened to Charles R. Randolph, Georgie's husband. He was supposedly still alive in April 1947 (& living in Salem) when his brother, Frank died. It's possible that he is buried in Paulding Co., OH which was considered at the time to be the "family home". His father, brother Harry who died in the Circus train accident in 1912, and several uncles & aunts are buried there (actually Defiance Co. at Riverside Cem.). I haven't been able to get there to check out exactly who all is there. Made a trip last year but was there on a Sunday when there were no workers there & it's a BIG cemetery...so no luck then. I've been in touch with some of John & Nancy Earnhart's other descendents, but they don't have any info except their own lines.... Thanks again! I really appreciate your help a lot... Sally
The Bureau of Land Management site seems to be back up at: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ "We provide live access to Federal land conveyance records for the Public Land States. We also provide image access to more than two million Federal land title records for Eastern Public Land States, issued between 1820 and 1908." These are records of the ORIGINAL purchase of land from the federal government. It has been up and down a lot in the last couple years due to a court battle. There is always the possibility that it will be taken down permanently. It seems unlikely to me but with the courts you never know. With that in mind you might want to move finding the original land record for your ancestors up on your to do list. Thanks to Dot for the heads up. Sally In a quick look at the East Lawn cemetery index Charles D. Randolph and Georgie Randolph are buried there. I do not see Charles R. Maybe Dot has the rest of the cemetery books and can find him.. I also see Jon Earnheart buried in east lawn. I should be able to get the pictures in a couple days since I do not live too far from there. Did I ask you about your Young connections?? Ray Young --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I tried to reply to your e-mail address but it kept bouncing back so I'm replying here on the ILMarion list Ray <ray@ussonet.net>, Thanks for your reply on the list.... Dot Bellmer e-mailed me 6 pages from the Footprints in Marion Co. (see my e-mail to the list). In that article are several names of newspapers for Salem...now if I could just get those microfilms! ;-} Don't know when I'll ever get there to do that research myself. My Youngs were in Henry & Bureau Co., IL between 1850-1870, then on to Kansas thru Iowa. Don't think they ever got as far south as Marion Co. Sally
Gary I know how you missed it. I use that road quite often and was not aware that there was a cemetery back there. Most of Marshall Creek is on 600 E but it makes a small jog to the west and it is 575 E that you are looking for. I am not sure where you are coming from but from out of town the best way to get there would be take Berry Rd (1900 N) east out of Patoka to Marshall Creek rd (575 E) and south approximately 3/4 mile. The new road signs have both the name in large letters and the old numbers smaller on the bottom. There is a small rock road going east that looks like it is going back to an abandonded farmstead. Take that back to just before the farmstead and make a right across a pipe cattle guard down what looks like a farm field road. The cemetery is about 1/4 mile north of the township line if you are looking on a plat book. Some plat books show it and some do not. I think the east boundary of the cemetery is the Patoka township line. Ray --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Ray, Thanks for the directions to Cruse Cemetery. I really appreciate it. One more question, though. Is Marshall Creek Road the same as 600E road on the border of Carrigan and Tonti townships? This would put the cemetery in the far southeast corner of Patoka Township, exactly where I looked and couldn't find it. If so, at least I was looking in the right place. Gary
