May I ask if you have any mention of BURKETT please? Thank you so much for all your hard work! Brenda
Source: http://www.prairienet.org/neaville/intro.htm The Neaville families that resided in Effingham, Marion, and Wayne Counties, Illinois, in the 19th and 20th centuries are the descendants of two men: George and Enoch Neaville. George and Enoch were most likely brothers. They were both born in the 1760s, shortly before the American Revolution. George was the older brother, born probably between 1760 and 1765, while Enoch was born probably between 1765 and 1770. Both George and Enoch lived in Wayne County, Kentucky, in the early 1800s. George later moved to Alabama and eventually settled in Effingham County, Illinois, while Enoch was one of the early pioneers of nearby Wayne County, Illinois, settling there around 1818. The father of George and Enoch Neaville may have been a member of the -Neufville family that resided in North and South Carolina in the 1700s and in particular colonial Charleston, South Carolina. Two members of this family, John Jr. and William, were held prisoner on the British ship Forbay (or Torbay?) during the Revolutionary War. William Robert Jones wrote in Wayne County, Illinois: An Early History, that the relatives of these men, as well as some of the other prisoners on this ship, eventually settled in Wayne County, Illinois. If Jones were correct, then the Neaville family is probably descended from the Neufville family because Enoch Neaville was the only Neaville in Wayne County when it was settled and all the Neavilles who lived there were either Enoch's or George's descendants. However, much of what W. R. Jones wrote was based not on documented evidence, but on his recollections, so his conclusions should be treated with caution. Other sources list the Neavilles as being of French ancestry. This supports the theory that they were descendants of the Neufvilles who were French Huguenots. The History of Effingham County, Illinois, says of George: "Neaville was a Frenchman." The Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Eastern Arkansas says of George's son, Elihu, "He was of French descent." A short summary of what is known of the Neufville family follows. PLEASE GO TO THE WEB SITE LISTED ABOVE FOR THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
