Gwen G eorge Washington was my great great grandfather. His son, Wesley Henson married Sarah Gertrude Wilson d/o of Alexander Wilson & Mary Eller. I have absolutely no information on them other than their names. I am related to the Courson line through my great Aunt Eva Belle Mulvaney m: Robert Outhouse and their daughter Minnie Mae married Arthur Courson s/o Earl Courson and Matty "Willison" could be Wilson. Are any of these yours? Sandy
This time it is really Civil War, earlier message should have had Church as subject. Have several hand written Civil War papers. Rosters of 1. Captain John A. Logan, 49th Il. members of Co. f and d. Capt John Houston Co. I Capt. G. W. Moore Co. G Capt Joseph (Laur?) Co. K 2. A letter dated 16 August 1863 describing an attack on several officers of the 49th 3. A list of sick and wounded from Mar 1862 through Aug 65. Regiment is NOT given. 4. A list of soldiers in Companys C, E, K, F, I and D. Places of residence shown are Richview, Mt. V., Cisne, Woburn, Sparta, Foxville, Nashville, Webb, Okawville, Centralia etc. 5. A letter written 2 Mar 186(3) I think, anyway it tells about the fall of Vicksburg. It is addressed to Mr. Atteby but is not signed. 6. A letter dated 17 May 1897, sent to or from Pleasant Mound, IL concerning the Civil War illnesses of Capt. J. W. Cheney. Would these records apply to Marion Co. or should I contact another county? Barbara
Thanks for the posting. I think you might have a typo there. The brothers were James Wiley Chance, Jr. and John Riley Chance (rather than James Riley Chance) at least as recorded by Silas Brown Wright, per my copy. You haven't seen real confusion until you try to determine whether it is Hillary, Hilary, or Hilry Chance. :-) However, I've noted that the transcription of the tombstone inscriptions in Fredonia Cemetery (Marshall Creek Cemetery, Tonti Township) indicated that the senior James Chance is Wiley (d 5 Jan 1866) although the name is entered parenthetically. The parenthetical entry indicatres that this might be a genealogical note appended to the actual transcription of the inscriptions. The transcriptions were prepared in late 1970s and early 1980s and subsequently published in 1997 by the Marion County Genealogical Society. Unfortunately, I've lost or misplaced my photos of the stones of the Chance tombstones in that cemetery so I haven't an original source upon which to rely. Maybe Dorothy could shed some light on the parenthetical entry...actual inscription or genealogical note added to the published transcription? Cheryle, thanks very much for sharing that information. I'm descended from Morgan Washington Nichols (one of my GGG grandparents) through his daughter Martha who married Dec 23, 1854 William Powell in Marion County. The last record I've been able to find of William and Martha E. Nichols Powell is the Federal Census of 1880 at which time they resided in Tonti Township. I'm interested in finding the death records and sites of interment for William and Martha Powell. The record you've shared with the list helps to clarify the relationship between John <Silas> Wright, Lucinda Wright, and Levin J. Wright with regard to four of Morgan's children. Malvina C. Nichols born 14 Jul 1833 per Silas Brown Wright but abt 1841 per the 1850 Federal Census enumeration in the household of Levin J. Wright, married (1) 28 Sep 1859 Jesse Albright (2) 28 Feb 1870 George Neville. The record you've provided re the attainment of lawful age supports the approximate birth year in the census enumeration. I have no FOSTER's in this list. The parts will probably come at different times than each other, cause they are all different sizes. It's annoying, since they are sent in order, but it sometimes happens that way.
