    3. Hi, Tammy, I have a Mary Ann Maroon that married my Fredrick Daniel Allsup about 1856. She apparently died about 1857, presumeably in childbirth or from it. Would you have her in your database? I'd like to learn a little bit about her, and who her parents/siblings were. According to my notes, she had a child, Mary J. Allsup in 1857. 2. Sid, Happy to help with what I have. As I mentioned previously, there seems to be many discrepancies in the Silas Wright book. My information comes from bible pages which are in my possession. Rather than give this to you in tree form, I will type it the way it appears in the bible. My own notes or comments are within brackets. You will see that the 1850 census information appears to be much more accurate than the Wright book, and corroborates most of the info I have below. Births [side 1, column 1] Wm B. Jones born March 3d, 1820 [aka Willis Jones] Eliza A Chance born Feb 27, 1822 Thos J Boring born Oct 3d 18 <the following are the children of Willis Jones and Eliza Chance> First Child - Son - unnamed born Feb 27 1840. 3. Hi Cheryle, Help me out. The Jones data I have from the 1850 Federal Census of Marion County, lists Henry as Willis head of household and provides estimated birth years for the children of Henry (or Willis) and Eliza Chance (my 1C4R) as abt 1841 for Henry, abt 1845 for Eliza, abt 1847 for Rasmus, and abt 1850 for Willis. These dates, of course, do not agree with the dates in Silas Brown Wright's book. Do I have the wrong Jones family located in the 1850 Federal Census? 3. I received the following email query: ...a form letter from Marion County Clerk and Recorder, Cliff Neudecker. The first line of that form states: "According to Illinois law, our birth, death and marriage records are closed to the public, however, member of any Illinois Genealogical Society may check indexes only to 1916." The lady wants a marriage record from 1907 or 1908. I really don't believe she has a firm date. However, I do not understand why she would not be allowed a copy should she know the date. Is she misunderstanding something or has Illinois law changed that much since I moved out of state? Cheryl Rothwell [email protected]

    2. Phil Huckelberry
    3. I am in the finishing stages of a Master's thesis on the economic and social history of Centralia from 1938-1978 and am curious if by any chance the genealogical work done by any individuals in Marion County has a more generally historical slant to it - any sort of public records or newspaper clippings about the town. Because of the nature of things I'm writing about (deindustrialization in large part) what might be especially useful are clippings or sources having to do with large employers or labor unions in Centralia during this period. If there happens to be any African-Americans with ties to Centralia during this period on the list, anything you have might be especially useful, because there's really a dearth of typical sources and I have had a great deal of difficulty learning/writing anything about racial interactions in the area. Additionally, if anybody on the list could get me in touch with Harriet Kinsey, it would be most appreciated. I believe she was (maybe still is?) an officer of the Marion County Genealogical Society and she also happens to be a distant relative of mine (my paternal grandfather's second cousin!) and I have not been able to find her email address or phone number at all. I would just request that any help anyone can provide me in getting in touch with her be directed to me off-list. Thank you very much, Phil Huckelberry Graduate Teaching Assistant The Ohio State University

    3. My husband's family are the Davis line and they came from Tishmongo Co., MS and neighboring counties in AL, where most of them still live. My husband's grandfather came to IL in the late 1930's to look for work and ended up in Chicago, and later moved to Kenosha, WI. He moved back to MS about 58 yrs. ago and passed away about ten years ago. My father in law moved to PAwnee, IL and later to Cordova, IL because of his work with Commonwealth Edison. He now lives in FL as do my husband's sisters. He is descended form a Bean (Rhoda) and lived down the street from a Chesser. I have several sites that describe his family line which was centered in the 1700's in Rowan Co., NC for the most part. There's a Proctor / Davis elated to my side of the family. I don't have all of my DAvis information at my fingertips at the moment, my husband must have borrowed his book again, but I will look to see if we have a William Buchannan. I know that we have a Thomas Clinton Davis, a Benjamin Farnklin DAvis, Wheeler, Walter RAy, Noel Curtis, and a few others come to mind that are totally common, but without the book, I'm not much good. I'll get back to you on that soon. Thanks for asking, it would be great if we could help each ohter out.
