The Schelp family came from Germany and were in Morgan Co for a while. Hanna Schelp married my great grandfather William Schmidt (later Smith) in Morgan Co. Donna, I cannot help you a whole lot, but do have an obit for Oliver Schelp. He married my cousin Ivarene Stratton. They never had any children. Oliver b 24 Feb 1915 in New Berlin, Sangamon Co, IL, d 27 April 1997 in Springfield, Sangamon Co. IL; m. Opal Ivarene Stratton ca 1945. Opal Ivarene Stratton b 19 July 1919 in S. Palmyra Twp., Macoupin Co. IL and d 26 March 1961 in Sangamon Co. IL. She was the daughter of Bessie Opal Stewart and Joseph Wilbur Stratton. Below is Oliver's obit. He then maried Phyllis R. Siever in 1964; she preceded him in death in 1993. Mr. Schelp, a member of St. John's Lutheran church in New Berlin, was a retired farmer of the New Berlin area. Survivors: two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Elizabeth) Beams of New Berlin and Mrs. Mark (Brenda) Walsh of Bartlett; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and two cousins.
