Hi Listers, My gg grandfather Richard Clark Rout married Margaret Jane VanZandt in Morgan County Ill 26 Nov 1846. I am unable to find any documentation for her death. She was supposed to have died while they were in California for the gold rush, and Richard gave his infant son away to a couple in California. Richard was married again in Morgan County, Mary A. Mills, 20 Oct 1859. Family legend says that Mary was killed in a cyclone (Do you have those in Illinois?). He was supposed to have lost his wife and a nephew in that storm. I can't find Mary either.
