    3. Would anyone have access to the 1835-1838 Morgan County tax lists? I am looking for a James Ray and an Abner Ray. And a question pertaining to the 1839 tax list: Is it a correct assumption if no section-township-range listed, that these are not real estate taxes, but personal taxes? And that these people are probably not land owners? Jim Ray

    3. Jim, I believe these tax records were among the ones I looked at on microfilm, which I was able to get through my local LDS Family History Center branch. Maybe you could try that route. Juli

    3. Jim - I don't find Abner Ray in the 1836 Land Tax Records, but do find James Ray listed (there are several other Ray listings) Morgan County, 1836, Page 93 (Included Cass & Scott) Line 25, Date of Land Entry: 23 Oct 1830, Patentee from U.S. Government: James Ray Present Owner: James Ray No. of Acres: 80 Section: E 1/2SW 15-14-13 Co. Tax: $1.20 and another entry: Morgan County, 1836, Page 94 Date of Land Entry: 18 Dec 1826 Patentee from U.S. Govt.: William Ambers Present Owner: James Ray No. of Acres: 80 Section, TN, RW: E 1/2 SE 28-14-13 Co. Tax $1.20 1840 Morgan County, Illinois Tax List James Ray is listed in the Personal Property Section, but the person who extracted the data didn't include the amount of taxes owed/paid. I don't see him included in the Property tax section and I don't find Abner listed either. Neither of them are listed in the 1841 or 1842 Tax Lists. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Ray" < > To: <ILMAGA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 20, 2000 10:05 AM Subject: [ILMAGA] Fw: Morgan tax lists > Would anyone have access to the 1835-1838 Morgan County tax lists?
