My two-year search in Illinois for descendants of Alex. Smith and Isabella Munro of Nairn, Scotland has been great fun and very rewarding thanks to a lot of kind people including Shirley Aleguas, Florence Hutchison, Jill at Morgan County Clerk's Office. I finally found a real LIVE third cousin once-removed, a descendant of Isabella Smith and Hugh Wilson who now lives in CA. She sent me a picture of a lovely sampler, worked by Mary Smith in Nairn the year before the whole family crossed the atlantic and made their way to Illinois. Mary Smith became a teacher in Jacksonville and I would love to know where she taught. If anybody knows of any school records from 1865-1890, please let me know about them. Also, I am looking for the family of James Smith and wife Charlotte McLeod, marr. in Scot 1849. They had a son Alex. Smith b. 1850, Nairn. died either in Winchester or Jacksonville 1852. I believe James and Charlotte also had a dau. Isaabella b. 1851 -2. James died in 1852 - his name is on his parents monument in Jacksonville East Cemetery. Charlotte then returned to Scotland. with, I hope, her dau. Isabella who married a Menzies. Another Smith, Jane, married George Cousins 1876 in Jacksonville and disappeared in Oklahoma. Would love to find out about them. Another brother, William Smith died in Jacksonville 1862 and it is possible that he left a family of Smiths, heaven-knows-where ! I think I will never finish with this family - if anybody out there has any Smiths they don't own, maybe they are mine. Let me know. Thanks again to everybody who helped with all the info I have collected - I almost feel as though Jacksonville is my second home. Marion
