    3. Well, Family Discovery is back at it. These two kids from Cedar Rapids Iowa are charging $43.00 to 59.00 for "unlimited access to their website. The only problem is that their website is a conglomoration of OTHER PEOPLE'S research. They put all the links they can find on their site - even linking to other peoples personal web pages. Further, most of their data "cells" are empty. They claim to have census, marriage, land records, etc., and they do . . . kind of . . . For example, for Illinois, all they have are: A link for marriage, cemetery and death records (which doesn't work) A link for Civil War regiments - which takes you to the Illinois Civil War Project Civil War regiment nicknames - which takes you to the Illinois Civil War Project Casualty lists for the Korean and Viet Nam war - which takes you to NARA records. If you're even tempted to buy this service, you may want to take a look here: http://www.familydiscovery.com/members/

    1. [ILMAGA] RE: HOOD surname in Illinois.....
    2. johnbuckjr
    3. Noticed the following request for HOOD information. My research has turned up some HOODs, but I haven't been able to directly tie them into my family, other than the marriage of Lillian Inez Buck (b. 11 Feb 1890 d. 14 Jan 1914) to George Hood. They were married on 8 February 1911. Lillian was my grandaunt. I have no children listed for them. They probably lived in Springfield, Illinois. I do have a couple of newspaper obits for HOODs, however, who may be connected to the above George. Reuben Hood of Waverly, Illinois. Mrs. Sarah Margaret Rector Hood, wife of Reuben. If anyone would like me to send copies of the obits please send me your E-mail address and I'll be happy to do it. If anyone knows anything about George Hood, his family or children, I'd appreciate hearing from you... Other surnames that I have an interest in are listed at the end of this message... **************************************************************************** **************** -----Original Message----- Sent: Friday, December 29, 2000 4:19 PM To: ILMAGA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILMAGA] Request for Greene Co Illinois Biographies Greene Co Bios: Elizabeth Hood C.F. Hood in Roodhouse's Martin Prairie Cemetery that very well could be my ggrandfather's grave I have been searching for. I have his birthdate as 1808 in Kentucky and the grave indicates birth in 1807 from age given 55 years in 1862. His wife, Milla Jackson, remarried a Samuel Blackburn in Greene Co Illinois in 1864 and lived in Riverton, Sangamon Co, Illinois in 1880 census. George and Milla migrated from Monroe County Kentucky some time before the 1860 Monroe County Kentucky census as they are found in the 1850 census. Until now the span from 1850 to 1864 when she remarries Samuel Blackburn is all I have on location of family but now am wondering if this George W. Hood's grave is my ggrandfather's. 3. Dear Shirley, I am having real trouble finding Catherine (Kate) Smith b. 1826 Nairn, dau. of Alex. Smith & Isabella Munro. I know she marr. a BAILEY and had a son Alexander Bailey who was alive in 1932. She does not appear in any Morgan Co. census. I have no idea where she lived and died. My only hope seems to be if she is mentioned in the obits of her mother and sisters. They are: Isabella Munro Smith. Died Jacksonville Jan. 22, 1886 ( her mother) Grace Smith (unmarried) Died Jacksonville Feb. 15, 1886 ( her sister) Margaret Smith " Died Jacksonville Jan. 2, 1901 ( her sister) I know you are a super busy person. I am willing to pay for somebody to go to the Library and look in Newspaper for these obits if you can arrange it. Let me know and I will send some dollars for this. I am getting desperate. Obits can be SO valuable. Hopefully, Marion Baker

    3. I have been a legacy user for about 1 1/2 years now and absolutly love it. I had searched many other programs, and ended up developing an elaborate system on my word processor (with double indexes for everyone, cross references etc) because nothing would work for me. But legacy does work. And the company is the best I have dealt with. They listen to customers and provide updates to the program about twice per month (for free). It is a first class program and a first class operation. -kk -----Original Message----- From: Mary Ann Kaylor [mailto:makaylor@motion.net] Sent: Friday, December 15, 2000 12:35 PM To: ILMAGA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ILMAGA] Fwd: [KAYLOR-L] Free Legacy software program A forward from my Kaylor List.....if anyone out there does not have Family History Software, this sounds like a good deal.....its FREE from Legacy, supposedly no strings attached. Please read below. I have not downloaded this myself as I have a couple of software programs, so I cannot 100% vouch for this. Perhaps some of you are familiar with the Legacy line?
