Hello list. I am trying to find where my husband's Great-great-great-grandfather, Nathan Pennybacker, is buried. He lived in Meredosia, Illinois from abt. 1844 to 1870. We found him on the 1870 Mortality Schedule of Morgan County under the spelling of 'Pinnebacker'. He was listed as living in the Meredosia Precinct. We have also found him on several Morgan County census records (under the wrong surname spelling) but have not been able to find him in any of the cemeteries in the area. Currently he is not on any cemetery index. Nathan's wife, Mary, should be also buried in the area. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Lu Ann Pennybaker lpennybaker@aep.com

Thanks Shirley, many of my Portuguese ancestors are buried in that old cemetery. Don Goveia
Isn't it funny how many different ways some of the names were spelled? ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: [ILMAGA] Jacksonville East Cemetery Author: ILMAGA-L@rootsweb.com at ~Internet Date: 7/17/2001 11:57 AM Thanks Shirley, many of my Portuguese ancestors are buried in that old cemetery. I found a Frances Thompson-Vaunel b. April 10,1913 possibly a daughter born to Loren B. Thompson and Jennie Fern Sharp. Loren B. Thompson son of Walter M. Thompson whose father was James & Rebecca Thompson, same line I am working. We are running John L. Thompson-brother to Walter M. Thompson. This Frances does fit the scenario about 1954 time frame, but possibly a William Thompson another brother? A lady from Morgan Co.,IL, said she found an old envelope, addressed to Frances Thompson in care of Captain William Thompson, Bethel, IL, She wrote this, to the family about 1954, she said he lived 3 mile from Bluffs and 9 miles from Meredosia. She said my gr grandfather Radley liked to go with him to dig herbs for medicine. She said he was a Sea going man. My Grandfather was born 1841. Some place I read their were Thompsons who were Ship Builders. Along the Mississippi River,( I think). In an Indiana Genealogy Magazine, I read and I still have, an article of a sea Captain Thompson who brought a family to America. And he settled on a farm in Indiana. I took this information to Dodge City, KS to the LDS they put the information on the Internet, no other information was found. I think the year was 1818, I hoping he was the father of my Washington and Robert and Mary. My thanks to Ginger,Judy, and Sara, any more question please write. If anyone has any suggestion on the Indiana Thompson, I think I can find this, it was only 5 or 6 lines. My thanks to all you wonderful people. Lorma

I just received a wonderful message concerning my Richard Thompson who may be somehow linked to your Robert, but am not sure. I am sending you an attached family file. My Richards father was John Thompson and his wife was Ann Garris. Rober Peck who sent me the message said that Johns father was James. James also had a brother Robert L. Thompson who may have been names after his father. All Bob Peck knew was that James' mothers name was Mrs. Jane Thompson born in Ireland. What is interesting enough is that the Thompson family of Virginia,Cass County,Illinois came in from Pennsylvannia. Our Richard Thompson was born in Harrisburg, says so on his marriage certificate to Josephine Nolden, who was my husbands great grandmother. So Richard was my husbands great grandfather. We went to Beardstown to look for a headstone for Richard, but since he was buried in a Potters Field we could not locate anything. I still can't believe that Bob Peck found this out. I always had a feeling that the Thompsons in Cass Cty were somehow related to our Richard, just could not put my finger on it. The documentation looked like to me that he was American Germ. but in fact it says American born. There was another Thompson family that could have been related as well, a Richard Thompson who married Lucinda Taylor. I believe he was born in Sangamon County,IL. There is a website for this particular Thompson family you may want to check it out, because I really don't know if your Robert may have been the father to James or not. So please try to locate it,because I would have to try to find it and it may take all night. If I find it I will send it to you.
