Somebody in the recent past was inquiring about Jesse T. Newman. He was my gg-uncle and I do have some information about him. He bought land just NE of Jacksonville. I am still looking for an information about my ggg-grandfather George S. Newman who moved here from Ross County, Ohio, abt. 1823. His son, Benjamin married Carolyn Cartwright. Harry Newman Harry G. Just put a new index online today for the 1911 History of Macoupin County. It has really nice bios and quite a few super pictures. Thought I'd let you all know it is online, as I could see from the few I've done, there are many ties and references to families in counties surrounding Macoupin.
Just want to remind everyone of the Sharp Families in America Association annual reunion August 11th & 12th, (next weekend) at the Farm Bureau Building, (1 block north of the square), in Carlinville, IL. We start both days at 9am til??? Anyone with Sharp or related families are welcome to attend. Please bring your material to share with other researchers. If you would like more information, please contact me at DHBethard@aol.com or phone #217-753-4121. I apologize to anyone who might receive this on more than one list. Don Bethard

Just a note to let you all know I added an additional 613 names to the Jacksonville East Cemetery listing today.
Any suggestions for my day trip to Winchester, IL? I tried calling the library for their hours but got what seemed to be a fax line. Is there a genealogy area at the library? I plan to go to the courthouse first, and if I have time, visit Jacksonville again on the way home. Linda
Are there obits that go as far back as 1877 or 1887? I'd like to find them for Rebecca JORDAN d Oct 18, 1877 and John R. JORDAN d Aug. 6, 1887, both died and are buried in Morgan Co. Through them, I would like to find more on my CAULKINS family who were in Morgan and Scott counties many years. This may sound like I'm going through the back door, but here is some background to explain why I'd like to learn more about the JORDAN family. Rebecca JORDAN's first marriage was to Nehemiah CAULKINS, and she was a stepmother to Silas and Mary Jane CAULKINS, plus she had a son, Samuel CAULKINS. After Nehemiah died (1832-1838 in Morgan Co.), Rebecca married John R. JORDAN, who became the guardian for the three CAULKINS children. Samuel CAULKINS died early in Morgan Co. Oct 5, 1851 and is buried in Jacksonville East Cemetery (is there a stone?). Silas CAULKINS, who never married or had children, I've been able to trace to his death in CA in 1903. He grew up in Morgan Co. and was a Mexican War veteran who enlisted in his birth state of IN. I'm trying to locate Mary Jane and her husband Thomas H. ELLIS. The last "sighting" I have is from land records---they were in Johnson Co., KS in 1859. A long involved story for such a short question on obits but I'm hoping someone might be able to help in some way. Thanks for your time! Linda Caulkins Stegall
