Hi All, Well I just got to my parents house in new york from visiting a family reunion in madison county of some distant relatives who started out in the Alton area in the 1850s.I live in Alaska.I learned so much this weekend my head is spinning. The reunion was for the Hoehn famliy.I spent much time in the libraries and court house finding great stuff.I also visited the grave sites of my G G G Grandparents in the Alton City Cem.I am so happy to have learn so much in only a few days. One thing I found out was that That grandfather was a blacksmith in Alton who mad Keys and locks for the Civil war Alton prison. Now I want to find a key or lock that was made by him,and buy it. Any suggestions? Also his last shop before he died in 1873 was listed as on the corner of 4th and state streets, If thats the intersection behind the Hayner library.(info not infront of me) It looked to me like the only building standing that is original is on one corner, painted red, brick.Does anyone know how I would find out if that was the corner his shop was in?He lived there too. Thanks in advance for your help.
