    3. If you are looking for birth, death or marriage records in Madison County, I suggest you countact the Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD) at SIU-Carbondale. The IRAD website is at: http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/data loc.html For Madison County they have: Birth Index 1846-1915 Birth Records 1846-1900 Death Index 1878-1915 Death Records 1878-1915 Marriage Index 1813-1908 Marriage Records 1813-1903 You can request by mail or phone. It takes about 1-2 weeks to receive a response and copies are $0.25 each with a $1 minimum (much cheaper than directly from the Madison County Clerk!). In addition to the above records, they also have probate, recorder and poor farm records. If you have ancestors that lived in Alton, I suggest you visit the Hayner Public Library in Alton on Belle Street --> http://www.altonweb.com/hayner/ <--. The two best resources are the Alton city directories dating back to 1850 and the Alton Telegraph newspaper on microfilm from about the mid 1830's to the mid 1930's. There is a printed index to the newspapers there, too. FYI--film machines take dimes only and copies on the copier are $0.15. Hope this helps somebody! _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com
