The Illinois Terminal RR connected Springfield, IL, with Danville and Peoria, IL, and St. Louis, MO. The railroad, which was once known as the Illinois Traction Co., used to operated interurban trolleys and electrically-powered freight service. By the late 1950's, Illinois Terminal had lost most of its passenger trolley business and had switched to diesel locomotives for pulling freight. On September 1, 1981, Norfolk & Western (Now Norfolk Southern R. R.) bought Illinois Terminal; IT was merged into N&W on May 8, 1982. Hope this helps. this helps.
