    3. A Fascinating Peek At the Past Marks Historic Preservation Week in Collinsville Union Veterans will be honored in a richly detailed ceremony at 1PM on Saturday, May 15th at Glenwood Cemetery on Center Street in Collinsville, IL. This event grew from a common interest in genealogy and a dedication to preservation of our past by three Collinsville residents. The late Charles Rinck, Doris Bauer, and Eugene Beals have spent years in bringing the elements of the ceremony into being. Fifty-eight new Civil War markers will provide the centerpiece of the ceremony. Various presenters, including historian Dennis Hermann, will address those gathered. Numerous organizations from Missouri and Illinois are joining forces to provide color and dignity to the event. Numerous organizations affiliated with Union forces in the Civil War will participate. Artillery units from both Missouri and Illinois will fire volleys to mark the event. The Collinsville High School Chorus and the Granite City Municipal Band will feature choral and instrumental period music. Many of the participants will wear uniforms and dress authentic to the Civil War period. Boy Scouts of Troop 84 are decorating each of the Civil War monuments with red, white and blue bouquets displaying thirty-four star flags authentic to the period. Memorial ribbons provided by Herr Funeral Home will be distributed to those in attendance. Don't miss this chance to participate in a fascinating bit of history with your family. For more information about the ceremony and those involved, contact Doris Bauer at 344-6628 or Eugene Beals at 346-1949. Take care, Yvonne in Burke, VA ************************** Viva la USGenWeb Project! Viva la USGenWeb Archives!
