Whoops!!! Piasa Street is no where near Alton City Cemetery. Alton City Cemetery is off Broadway. You go up Monument Street off Broadway to 5th Street which runs east and west. Alton City Cemetery is on your right. If you happen to be coming from St. Louis across the new Clark Bridge, when you get across the bridge you turn right and get in the left turn lane. At the first stoplight, you angle left and at the bottom of that little decline there is a stoplight. That's Broadway. Cross Broadway onto Monument Street and continue up the hill, the Alton City Cemetery is on your right. The Lovejoy Monument is in the Alton City Cemetery. There is also a large mausoleum there. We have family buried all over that cemetery and in the mausoleum. My husband's great-grandfather lived at the Corner of Cherry Street and 4th Street over a hundred years ago. That house is still standing and in good condition. You cross Cherry Street on your way up to 5th Street.
