Hello all, In my research I have found a headstone that has the following design on it and it has me stumped .Have any of you ever run across this symbol or know what it stands for ????On this stone is a circular shield. Within the shield is a flag on a pole , flag flying towards your right as you face the stone . In the place where our stars are..is a single ?star or flower. Crossing the flag is a tomahawk , business end toward your left..sharp end down). The handle appears to be wraped & I don't see any bowl (like to smoke it) or feathers dangling down from the handle end. Crossing this is a skeleton key & crossing the middle is a banner with HOME FORUM written on it. At the bottom of the shield are the initials H. F. B. D. or the D maybe an O. He did enlist from Greene Co.,IL. during the Civil War and served under Capt. Thomas H. Flynn, He might have been in the ranger's or a special branch of the military in the Civil War- or belonged to a modern day gun & rifle club.
