Washington T (or F) MILLER was born in 1815 in Kentucky. His parents were from Kentucky. He married Julia SMITH in 1837 St. Louis, MO. He married Ruth B SMITH in 1846 Madison Co., Illinois. Washington and Julia had children all born in Illinois: Andrew S. (b:1838), Julia Ann (b:1841), Sarah M (b:1842), and Ruth A (b:1844). Washington lived in Alton, Madison Co., Illinois between (before) 1840 and 1880. 1870 lists grandchildren Henry & Cora C Miller (assumed to be Andrew's kids...he's not listed). Also in household are Catherine Kennedy and Julia Gordon, both age 20. 1880 and after has Washington, Ruth, Henry, Cora, and Jerome SMITH (Julia & Ruth's brother) living in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. Julia, Jerome (1818), and Ruth B (1824) SMITH were all born in New York. Their father was from New York, their mother from Connecticut. In 1870 Alton, Washington is listed as a real estate agent. In 1880 Chicago, he was listed as a commissioner in fruit and vegetable business. side note: Washington's daughter, Julia Ann MILLER, married Samuel Boyd DAVIS in 1858 Madison Cty. Samuel was in a commissioner in fruit, vegetable, cheese, butter, meats, and provisions. He lived in Alton between 1858 and 1866. He lived in Chicago 1870 and after. Samuel and Julia had a son, Samuel Edward DAVIS who married Grace RYERSON in 1887 Chicago. In 1880, she was living in her step-father and foster-mother's house which was near Washington MILLER. I'm trying to find more info on these MILLER and SMITH lines.... hopefully finding out where in CT Mrs. Smith was from (I grew up in OR but now live in CT).
