Hello, We are new to the list and we need some help and pointers on the following family. This is what we know so far. My husbands Grandmother is Dorothy Louise GOTTHARDT born May 25, 1904 in ILL. We found her on the 1910 Illinois Federal Census, Roll T624_309, Madison Co, Godfrey Village, Sheet 1A, And on the 1920 Federal Census, ILL., Madison Co., Alton Twp., Roll T625_389, Pg. 6B. On the 1910 Census it lists John and wife Lois along with children Dorothy, Mary K. and Helen M. On the 1920 Census it lists Dorothy L., Mary K. and Helen M. Gotthardt living with and listed as nieces to William GOTTLOB, wife Lela, their children WIlliam R. and Thelma and Sarah J. BIGGS listed as Mother in law. We know from another researcher that Lela's maiden name is ARMSTRONG. They have her death certificate with her parents listed ANDREW J. and SARAH J. (NANTZ) ARMSTRONG. Sarah first married Andrew in 1876 and then in 1896 she married John Wesley Biggs. These marriages took place in Macoupin Co. We know Dorothy Gotthardt's parents are John and Lois Gotthardt. John Gotthardt was born October 09, 1878 in ILL, died October 08, 1947 in Alton, Madison Co. and was buried in the Carlinville City Cemetery, Carlinville, Macoupin Co., ILL I called the City Clerks Office in Carlinville and got verification John and Lois are indeed buried in the City Cem. Lois however is an enigma. We know from census ages she was born about 1878 in ILL. We know from the death date on her tombstone she died 1914. How do we go about getting any kind of death record on someone who died in 1914? Does anyone live in Madison Co thats on this list that could go to the courthouse and see if there is a death record of her? Since her kids were listed living with the Gottlob family we thought they were related to them but a Gottlob researcher seems to have all the Gottlob children and there isnt a Lois among them. So, we figured they were nieces of Lela Armstrong Gottlob. However, we can't find anything anywhere listing this. We arent sure why the kids were living with their Aunt and Uncle in 1920 as their father didn't die until 1947 but we figure it had to do with him working for the railroad. We have verification of John thru these records: !.) 1910 Illinois Federal Census, Roll T624_309, Madison Co, Godfrey Village, Sheet 1A. 2.) 1900 Roll T623_324, Macoupin Co., Carlinville Twp., Carlinville City, City Ward #2, Sheet 4, Second South St. Listed living with parents. 3.) 1880 Illinois Federal Census, Roll T9_232, Pg. 18B, Macoupin Co., Carlinville Twp., listed with parents. Register Of Births, State of Ill., Carlinville City, Macoupin County, Register No. 68. 4.) Department of the Interior, Bureau of Pensions, Washington, DC, January 15, 1898, States wife and childrens names. His fathers Civil War Pension file papers. We have Johns parents and his siblings names thru Civil War papers, census, birth registers, marriage records, naturalization papers. But what we are really stumped on and need to proceed is Lois's maiden name. I already have if Lela Armstrong Gottlob IS her sister, the parents marriage info, census records and another researcher who has info on the family. I can go back 2 more generations on the Nantz line and 1 more on the Armstrong...so even if she isnt an Armstrong I can help other people with that line LOL Any help, suggestions, a volunteer to go to the courthouse...anything would be greatly appreciated!! Much thanks, Donna and Robert Gill in MD
