Thank you!! :-) We are looking for information on several Madison County families. Armstrong, Gotthardt, Gottlob, Keller, Slagle, Gooch, Goodpasture, Biggs, Fricke The Armstrong family is tied to our Gotthardt family in more ways than we recently discovered. I found our Gotthardt family on the 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 census. I have a naturalization paper, 2 copies of the birth registers of Madison Co., and a copy from the National Archives of Civil War Pension papers and a copy of Civil War Roster cards. We've been talking to our Uncle Paul Keller who was born in 1924 in Alton. He remembers having 2 Aunt Lela's. One being Lela Armstrong who married WIlliam Gottlob. He rememebrs going to the VFW Post 1308 of which he is still a member and greeting his Gottlob cousins. Lela Armstrong Gottlob operated a Grocery store on Washington he remembered going too. Uncle Paul also talks of an Aunt Lela Armstrong. Married to Paul Armstrong. They operated the Armstrong Standard Service Station on Central. He remembers going there also. He said after Paul Armstrong died the station was sold and Lela then remarried to Edwin Cox. On the 1920 census, my husbands Grandmother Dorothy Louise Gotthardt and her sisters Mary K. Gotthardt and Hellen M. Gotthardt were found living with William Gottlob, wife Lela, their children. They were listed as Nieces. Also living there was mother in law Sarah J. Biggs. Uncle Paul said that he was related to Aunt Lela. Which means theoretically that the childrens mother Lois Unknown and Lela Armstrong Gottlob were sisters and in order for there to be an Uncle Paul and Aunt Lela Armstrong that would theoretically mean Paul was a brother to Lela and Lois. I found a P.E. Armstrong with wife Lela on the 1920 census. But I have nothing to tie any of these people together except the memories of Uncle Paul. We need help with our Alton families. Also, does anyone know of the address you write to if you want copies of records from the Catholic Orphanage that used to be in Alton?? My husbands mother and siblings (Uncle Paul) were all raised there. I'm going to include a genelaogy report as its so much easier for me than typing it all in. Thank you and have a good evening!!
