Bill If you have access to a map of Illinois or Madison Co IL, here's where Paddock's Grove and Liberty Prairie are located - Liberty Prairie - now about 1/10 mile from the intersection of IL highways 140 and 159 Paddock's Grove - about 1 to 1-1/2 miles north of the intersection of IL highways 140 and 159 So you see the two were basically backyard neighbors. All that's left of Liberty Prairie is the cemetery which is behind (north of) the house which sits on the north side of IL 140 just east of IL 140 and 159 intersection. There's also a church which is just south of that house on the old section of IL 140 which met IL 159 up until a few years ago when about a mile of IL 159 was relocated a tad west of the original location so that it and IL 140 could meet without a zig and a zag as before. Now there's a stop light at the intersection. The church was active until sometime in the 1970's. There was a one-room school across from the house but that was abandoned many years ago by the Edwardsville School District when they got rid of that type of school. My cousins attended it for a few years. After going down over a period of time it was finally torn down. Paddock's Grove was referred to as the area where the Paddock family settled. I don't think the old home place is standing anymore. I think the family who bought the place after the last of family died who lived built an A-frame house on the spot. It was situated next to the Paddock cemetery which is behind the old home location and just a tad north of it. Last I knew I think my uncle was doing the grass mowing but I'm not sure if he still does. Debbi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
