    3. A note to all WEBTV users. You can't even get INTO the site. I found the same thing with genealogy and ancestry. They give you two weeks to try it out and then everything for which you ask it says it isn't available, do don't fall for it. Stick with this site and others like it. There are great people in Illinois who will be glad to do lookups for WEBTV users. And don't forget that every surname you can think of has a site. I refuse to give them my credit card number anymore. It was dangerous to do it in the first place. People on computers, I understand, do not have that problem. This doesn't answer the gentlemans question on NewspaperArchives.com, however. I usually just write the Intelligencer and they will send me what I need. It is a great newspaper. And if you can't find what you need anywhere else, you can find it at the Secretery of State Archives. Dewey

    2. Just wondered if there are any satisfied users of NewspaperArchives.com on this list...particularly if you are using a Mac. They have archives of the Edwardsville Intelligencer available, and a quick search with my surnames showed several articles of interest. But some of the advanced search features didn't work for me. And I'm wary of putting a 'self-renewing' subscription on my card without first talking to someone who has used the site happily. Thanks for any input!

    3. Thank you for your reply. Do you know where I might obtain a copy? Or, do you think I might obtain a scanned copy by email of the page showing Sec 5-Twp4N-Rg7W-3rd p.m.? (if that is not a copyright problem). My gr-gr-gr-grandfather Thomas Barnett was the original owner of the NE1/4 of NW1/4 of Sec 5, ca 1817. I think U.S. Highway 55 (formerly Route 66) goes through the property now. He also had property adjacent to the north in Twp.5N. Curious to know if the area is still farmed, part of Edwardsville, or other use. 1. Buried veterans' records now available on Web
    2. This was sent to me from another list and in one search I found a long missing Civil War ancestor's burial location. I felt it was worth passing on. Judy Clark-Wick *Buried veterans' records now available on Web By Suzanne Gamboa The Associated Press WASHINGTON - Sally Naporlee turned to the Department of Veterans Affairs to find out more about her grandfather, who served during World War I. After a few weeks wait for a response, Naporlee learned from the VA that Carmelo Castorina is buried at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y. Unexpectedly, she also learned from VA that her grandmother is buried with him, a privilege extended to veterans' spouses. VA has made it easier and faster for the public to get answers about family history, old war buddies or famous war heroes. The agency put on the Web 3.2 million records for veterans buried at 120 national cemeteries since the Civil War. The VA's Nationwide Gravesite Locator, at http://www.cem.va.gov, also has records for some state veterans cemeteries and burials in Arlington National Cemetery since 1999. Joe Nosari, VA's deputy chief information officer for Memorial Affairs, said the records used to be on paper and microfilm. Private companies have put some of the information online and charged for it, but the VA information is free, he said. Naporlee, of Spokane, Wash., also learned her grandfather served with the Army's 161 DB unit, enlisting June 24, 1918. He was honorably discharged December 17, 1918. The VA's gravesite navigator includes names, dates of birth and death, military service dates, service branch and rank if known, cemetery information and grave location in the cemetery. The VA will withhold some information, such as next of kin, for privacy purposes. The site will be updated daily. Annually, about 80,000 veterans are buried at national cemeteries. The VA also hopes to add records for veterans whose families requested grave markers from the VA. Those markers may go to private cemeteries or cemeteries overseas. I have also thought to write the town of St. Jacob and see if they have any record. But that is on the to do list. Thanks for the help. Marie

I am interested in John Edwards (perhaps John J. Edwards) or his family, who probably lived in Granite City (or maybe Edwardsville) in 1880 to 1920. (This could be later or earlier. He would be my GGrandfather----he married Anna Craig & I believe they lived in either Henry County or Wayne County Indiana. I suspect the marriage occurred around 1890 as he they had three girls in the 1890's (Mildred, Marjorie & evelyn) and they a boy (my Grandfather) around 1904. He seems to be out of the picture shortly after that, but it is not clear that he died. There seems to be something about him going to Wales & back with his family or for his family (he was born in Wales). Further, I once found an article in the Richmond, Indiana paper which mentioned the family going to Granite Illinois because a monument (or some like honor) was being erected to him (or perhaps some other relative). Would appreciate any information which the relevant census data might reveal (or any other source of information someone might have). Thanks for your attention to this matter mayla@lava.net

    3. Dewey, my name is Susan Metzger and I have been reading the information on the cemetery look up. I saw that you mentioned a cemetery book about New Douglas. My gggrandfather, his son, and their families are buried in Corrington Cemetery which is outside of New Douglas. He was the first to be buried there. Do you have any information regarding that cemetery? The rest of the family is buried in what we call the "New Douglas" Cemetery....this may not be correct, but it is where the Knowlson's and Bartels are all buried right outside of town. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated.
