Loved your email on the St. Louis mansions, esp. Orthwein's! Florence
Does anyone remember a Chief of Police named Riggins? This would have been pre 1970. Karen
Thanks. I'll have to try calling them at a slightly more decent hour. --- PALMEEM@aol.com wrote: > For those who wanted to buy a copy of the Plat map for Madison county > the > name of the company is Farm and Home Publishers out of Belmond Iowa. > Their phone > number is > 1-800-685-7432. For those who wanted to buy a copy of the Plat map for Madison county the name of the company is Farm and Home Publishers out of Belmond Iowa. Their phone number is 1-800-685-7432. Local number in Iowa is 515-444-3508. I have found my copy from 1998. I have a more recent copy but have no idea where I have stuck it for the moment. Ellie
I have never had any problems with Ancetry or Genealogy.com. I actually use them together when doing my research since neither of them have all of the records indexed, what one doesn't have indexed the other one does. My biggest headache is the magazine subscription, for 3 years they still cannot get the address right. > ==== ILMADISO Mailing List ==== > Keep an eye on this census site because more census' are going up every day. > http://www.us-census.org/usgwcens/ > and this one: http://www.rootsweb.com/~census/states.htm > > >
Hello to all, I am the first one to encourage others to sign up for their census subscription. More and more of their pages are indexed -- and even when the names are spelled incorrectly, it's usually okay if you use the soundex feature and probable location. (And believe me, there are many spellings of Redlingshafer, Yelkin and even Greer out there!) I also use their newspaper subscription with great success. Found my great-grandfather's obituary in an Alaskan newspaper -- he was visiting a son when he died and was born in Iowa (a second obituary there) and buried in Montana! :) I have a large complaint with FTM and steer clear of anything that points to that program. AND I had terrible luck with genealogy.com and cancelled that subscription within a week. Of course, I don't have a problem with aol and many other folks have - so who knows? I can highly recommend, Legacy, Roots Magic and Master Genealogist to folks -- I use them all depending on my needs: Legacy for ease of use overall, RootsMagic for creating pdf books and reports and Master Genealogist for over-sized charts. HOpe you're all having luck today and if you need anything from the St. Clair county end, just give me a hoot and a holler. Remember -- always check St. Clair and Clinton counties as they are close neighbors to Madison. Donnell Redlingshafer Wisniewski
I have had Ancestry for over 3 years. No problem. If and when I choose not to get it any more I will just change my personal settings along with calling them. They can't debit my card without a valid number. I didnt much care for the newspaper subscription tho. Had no trouble cancelling it. I have had Ancestry people call me- trying to "encourage" me to "reup" 3 months before my actual time is up....but I refuse, tell them I will take care of it.....that has been the end of it......I do know that if and when I do choose to let go of Ancestry...I will notify my credit card co. first...to refuse any charges from Ancestry or anybody else.....who thinks they can play fast ball. Happy Hunting.... I will pull my plat book and see what I can find. I have a scanner and if I can find what you are looking for, I would be happy to send it. Ellie
I haven't been online so just read this. I will pull my plat book out of the cabinet and print the contact information later today.
Thanks for the tip Dewey. I will try that. Have a nice day! Hi Some people are luckier than others. Some look for a little bit from their money, however. I have nothing against any genealogy site which can make money legally. There are so many sites that list "it's free" and what do you get in response? An application to join Ancestry.com. It's THOSE heinyochs that get to me. Dewey
I am searching for a list of those interred here. Is there one available somewhere? Also any history on the school. My grandmother Jesse Ann Barnett attended that school bet. 1897-1909. I saw a photo online at http://www.theschwag.com/memorial1.html but don't know how old that school is. Is the school still there now? Thanks.
Dennis, you might try writing to the village of Hamel. It is north of Carpenter road. I have often found that in writing to a town so small you get answers quicker than a large City. Except for New Douglas which NEVER answers ANYTHING. And the reference says it is 5 miles north of New Douglas when it is about a half mile. Dewey
Shame that such a great site has to be such a pain to deal with in the subsciption area. I haven't talked to anyone that did not have trouble. Carolyn
According to my ninety year-old father, there was at one time a small settlement on the north side of Worden (in Omphghent Township) called "Hampton". I believe that this would have been in the late nineteenth century or very early twentieth century. Has anyone heard of this settlement? Myra
and Marie, if that long black dress shows only her face and hands, it was taken before 1920. Dewey Genealogy site below: You can choose friends; you are stuck with relatives. http://community-2.webtv.net/Evertshistory/EVERTSCRITESafamily http://community.webtv.net/Deweyphotos/EVERTSCRITESFAMILY
Hi, try this Email address at the Library, they will further advise you I am sure. hpplweb@nsls.info Dewey
I have an old photo that I can't identify for sure. An older woman in a rather nondescript black long dress. No style to identify. On the back it says "Baer's Art Gallery, East of the Public Square, Highland, Ills." Does anyone know when this photographer was in business? Thanks in advance. Marie
It happened to me, too, with Ancestry.com. I had to get verbally rude with them, if you know what I mean. I'm with PennyM.
