Hi Dora, I forwarded all the msgs to Susie. She replied with this. If you want to write to her, her email address is on the msg. Gloria ------ Susie's reply: From: SMompop4@aol.com Date: Wed, 12 May 2004 01:11:25 EDT Subject: Re: Need some assistance with a burial place To: glofra@earthlink.net X-Mailer: 9.0 for Windows sub 5111 Hi Gloria, Thanks for posting it - seems like Betty and I are not the only ones who want to see this lady get her marker back! I sure appreciate it. So far the info your listers have sent, is the same info that others sent today to me personally. We think this Caroline in the census is the one we are looking for. Someone even found a burial record for her in Alton at St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery. They are checking to see if the grave has a stone, and they are checking with the antique store owner to see if this is a weathered stone, or if not - then maybe she already has a stone and this one was for display or something. But I sure appreciate you and your listers helping. Getting the info more than once just makes me feel stronger that we have the right lady, and now we have to see if she has a stone, or if maybe we can locate some of her descendants. Many thanks to you and your listers - true genealogy angels! smiles, susie At 01:26 AM 5/13/2004, you wrote: >Hi Gloria >Did this response help or is it the same everyone found? >Thanks . >Dora >================== >----- Original Message ----- >From: "dorac" <dorac@comcast.net> >To: "Gloria Frazier" <glofra@earthlink.net> >Sent: Tuesday, May 11, 2004 2:05 AM >Subject: Re: [ILMacoupin] Can you help Susie with Caroline Graff burial >place? > > > > What about the Caroline Graff (55- Widow born in NY and German ancestry) >in > > the 1910 census as a mother-in-law to Adolph Pfiffer and wife Henrietta. > > They lived at 1100 Jefferson Ave in Alton. Sorry list, My grandkids have played with my computer so much that my mouse ball isn't tracking and I hit the wrong address. I know you can't attach files to the list. Also, Tif is a larger file than jpg which is compressed and takes longer to send.

I have found in the Alton paper where a Caroline Graff married William C. Morrissey on May 28, 1909. Could this be the same Caroline Graff and something happened in the marriage? I later found where William Morrissey a/k/a was indicted for larceny on three counts and was to serve three years on each count. That was on March 30, 1854. This is a long stretch but stranger things have happened. Sharlene
After checking the Death Index - State of IL, there is not a Caroline Graff (or Graf) listed as dying in IL in 1917.

From: SMompop4@aol.com Date: Tue, 11 May 2004 00:05:45 EDT Subject: Need some assistance with a burial place To: glofra@earthlink.net Hi Gloria, My name is Susie Gillick and I am on a quest to find where a Caroline Graff, b. 1855, d. 1917, and was a mother - is actually buried. She is not related to me at all. I received an email from a lady in Alton, IL, this morning asking if I knew anything about this lady. I do have a Caroline Graff married to my great grandmother's brother, but the years and the counties do not match or even come close. It seems there is a head stone for this lady in an antique store in Alton, and the owner would like to give the stone to the cemetery or the family free of charge so that it can once again mark this lady's grave. I am sending you the info so that you could maybe post it so that maybe someone who either lives in your county or is searching in your county might be able to help us. I have checked Madison county, the statewide marriage and death indexes, google, genealogy.com and ancestry.com - all to no avail. I hope you will be able to find a place to post this. The following is the info about the stone and the lady: Trying to find CAROLINE GRAFF, born 1855, died 1917. There is a head stone with her name sitting in an antique store in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. No one knows where it belongs. On Mother's Day there was an article in the local paper there, asking if anyone knew her or where the cemetery is that she is buried. The store owner has said he will give it to the cemetery - it is not for sale. Please help this marker get back to the lady it memoralizes. If you have any info on this lady, you can contact me privately at <mailto:SMompop4@aol.com>SMompop4@aol.com Thank you in advance for your help. Thank you, Gloria, for any help you can give us. smiles, susie

Hello, Chief Harold Riggins' wife name was Wanda. She was a security guard at the old Arlen's store in the 1960s. He was night captain and worked for the police department in the 50s and maybe even the 40s. He later became chief. There is a lot of information about him in the files of Hayner Library in Alton. You may already have them information, but thought I would pass it along. Tell Leo that I said thanks. We will try checking with the City Clerk and Police Dept. I'm doing this checking for my daughter-in-law, Monica and her family. She just left with the kids to go back home, and the house is empty, empty, empty. Love, Karen
My journal is finished. Except that I am not hearing from descendants of Peter and Anna Everts or John and Elizabeth Crites. I have all the info on the first generation, Peter, Anna, John & Lizzie. They, of course, are all dead. If you are a part of the tamily, write to me eiher at this site or my Email address for the Journal. I have very little information from 1981 forward. A few brave relatives have written, and I have included the info they sent. Rev. Dewey Leon Everts Jr.(age 75)
