    1. Re: [ILMADISO-L] Obit for Aldo Lawrence Bacca.
    2. The Social Security Death Index lists his birthdate as 10/15/21 and his death as May 1977, not '76. Has the error in his death year kept them from finding his obit? You might check as this website suggests. Old Newspapers are simply a goldmine! You can find obituaries and death notices, mining accidents, travel information, gossip, marriages and so much more. The Illinois Historical Library in Springfield holds all surviving Illinois newspapers on microfilm. If you know the date of a death, marriage, accident or other event, the library will be happy to make copies for you. 2 requests are allowed at one time (and they follow this rule, so only send 2 requests!). They accept requests by U. S. Postal mail and by telephone. Contact information and a link to a searchable database of surviving newspapers held at the library can be found on our Illinois Research Help Page at: http://www.iltrails.org/ilrehelp.htm At 12:13 AM 6/25/2004, you wrote: >Walt Haase, owner and publisher of the Staunton Star-Times (has been so >helpful to me) is sending me obits for my brothers John and Joe and >William Noll of Staunton is kind enough to send me an obit of Audrey >Everts Noll. 1. Wash MILLER & Julia SMITH
    2. Washington T (or F) MILLER was born in 1815 in Kentucky. His parents were from Kentucky. He married Julia SMITH in 1837 St. Louis, MO. He married Ruth B SMITH in 1846 Madison Co., Illinois. Washington and Julia had children all born in Illinois: Andrew S. (b:1838), Julia Ann (b:1841), Sarah M (b:1842), and Ruth A (b:1844). Washington lived in Alton, Madison Co., Illinois between (before) 1840 and 1880. 1870 lists grandchildren Henry & Cora C Miller (assumed to be Andrew's kids...he's not listed). Also in household are Catherine Kennedy and Julia Gordon, both age 20. 1880 and after has Washington, Ruth, Henry, Cora, and Jerome SMITH (Julia & Ruth's brother) living in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. Julia, Jerome (1818), and Ruth B (1824) SMITH were all born in New York. Their father was from New York, their mother from Connecticut. In 1870 Alton, Washington is listed as a real estate agent. In 1880 Chicago, he was listed as a commissioner in fruit and vegetable business. side note: Washington's daughter, Julia Ann MILLER, married Samuel Boyd DAVIS in 1858 Madison Cty. Samuel was in a commissioner in fruit, vegetable, cheese, butter, meats, and provisions. He lived in Alton between 1858 and 1866. He lived in Chicago 1870 and after. Samuel and Julia had a son, Samuel Edward DAVIS who married Grace RYERSON in 1887 Chicago. In 1880, she was living in her step-father and foster-mother's house which was near Washington MILLER. I'm trying to find more info on these MILLER and SMITH lines.... hopefully finding out where in CT Mrs. Smith was from (I grew up in OR but now live in CT).

    3. I live close to the area you are talking about but not close enough to go and research this for you. If you do not get a response try getting hold of the following newspaper since I believe they cover that area. Alton Telegraph 111 E. Broadway Alton, Ill. , 62002 618-463-2500 I keyed in "Alton Telegraph" and "Alton Daily Telegraph" and "The Alton Daily Telegraph" with not much information on the main office. I tried to find the library with no results. I don't have anyway to access Staunton's information so maybe this will give you a start if nobody else sends anything. 2. Thank you!!!!! Gloria!!!!! for this wonderful website!!!!! I immediately tried it out and found the link to the WWI records and found my husband's maternal grandfather on it - Clarence R. Higgins!!!! Now I have his exact date of birth, when he was inducted, etc. I have a picture of him with the men of his Co L, 54th Infantry (same as the WWI record!) - he did serve in France 1918 to 1919 as was mentioned on the record. It was his date of birth that was a great bonus!! Thank you!!! Judy Linenfelser

    2. Mangold & Dittes
    3. Dear Listers Thanks to the staff at the Madison County Clerk's Office, I now have a copy of my ancestor's Naturalization Certificate. This certificate for Philip Wenner was issued on October 27, 1866. The Intent was filed in St. Louis on July 21, 1863. My dilemma is this: was this my ggg grandfather, Philip Wenner, or his son, Philip Wenner? The Naturalization Certificate provides no clues such as age, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? Were there any other records kept that might contain a birth date? Myra

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: GDETTLEFF@aol.com Sent: Sunday, May 23, 2004 9:42 PM Subject: Bethlehem Lutheran Church Confirmands 1870-97 Greetings, Everyone! Dave Lossos has added some more Bethlehem Lutheran Church records on his site: http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com These are confirmation lists from 1870 to 1897. At first I thought it would not be worth transcribing these records because in many cases the lists consist of nothing more than a last name under a header of "Boys" or "Girls." However, some years contain a goldmine of information. They contain the person's birth date, father's name, place of birth and in a few, also the place of Baptism. There are lots of Illinois births, some other states as well as Germany locations. Plus a few other countries too. As always, keep in mind how difficult these microfilmed records are to read. Good luck in your searches! Gloria
