I missed the post quoted here. If there is an 1866 directory of Madison County, I would appreciate very much a lookup for Nicholas Benjamin Weber, age 50, wife Ora Ann, age 40, son Albert Lawrence, age 3 and his father Michael Nicholas, age 69. They should be listed in Collinsville. Any information greatly appreciated. Hi Jane, Did you try Belleville, St. Clair county for your Becker's? There were several families there. Sue Gardner Shreve <Sue12632@aol.com> is also looking for the Becker family in St. Clair. Is anyone researching the surnames Tiffin or Hauskins in Madison County. A Clayton Tiffin was living there in 1820, as well as two Hauskins, a Lemmons and an Isaac. This is sort of interesting since I am looking for the ancestry of Clayton Tiffin/Tiffen Hauskins, who was born in Seneca County, OH in 1818; wonder if his family migrated to Madison County, as that is one of the places he is sometimes said to be from. Thanks for any help, Jim French in NJ

Anyone out there have any information on the name Buckley or Proffitt in Madison County? Around 1844, John Buckley came from Kentucky to Madison County. His son, Zack, married Susan Proffitt. She is the daughter of Jeremiah Proffitt and Elmira Thurston. I know John owned land just northwest of Edwardsville. I have a copy of his will and a few other items about all of these people in Madison County. One of my problems is John's death. He died around 1868, but I have not been able to locate exact death information or a grave. Jeremiah died in 1881 - same deal, no death or grave info. I recently visited Madison County and went through many cemetery books, and other records at the Historical Society, but many dead-ends. Do any of these names ring a bell with anyone out there? Please let me know. Thanks.
Jeana, Oh, please tell me there is a George John Becker, wife Julia Henrietta. Could be either of the names. I think, I think they were in the dairy business. They were married in St. Louis in 1865- -I can't find 'em anywhere! Thank you so very very much! Jane Fagan fagan@ipa.net
For anyone needing a look up, I have a copy of the 1866 directory for Madison Co, plus Alton and Upper Alton. It just gives the men and where they lived and sometimes what they did. Gives the streets they lived on in Alton and Upper Alton. If you need a look up please put "request Madison" in the subject and send it private. I do lots of look ups in other counties and it makes it easier. Also please rely privately, I have a queue button I reply with and I hate to send abunch of this to the list. Thanks Jeana
