Searching for descendants of Thomas B. Sparks on 1850 census. I think he may be a relative of Mathew Sparks who married Mary Ann Phillips Southard in Alexander Co., IL in 1838. Mathew died before 1841 when Mary Ann migrated to Madison Co. Family legend has it that Sampson, or Samuel, Sparks was half-brother to August Marion Sparks, son of Mary Ann and Mathew. Sam... operated a sorghum mill near Carpenter. Hardy Sparks is thought to also be related to August M. Sparks. Joann Southard Reitz

Hi Marty & Sue: Thanks for the article. This goes hand in hand. I just picked up a FREE magazine at the Health Food Store entitled, Alternative Medicine, published in Escondido, CA. March 1999 issue and there is an article in there, page 83, that states 33% of Doctors Now Prescribe Herbs. "One out of Three U.S. primary care physicians now prescribe herbs to their patients, according to a telephone survey of 153 doctors in August 1998, sponsored by Pharmaton Natural Health Products, based in Ridgefield, Connecticut. " The article goes on to say that 67% of patients ask their physicians at least once a week for Information about supplements. There's lots more to the article. By the way, my cancer lady, Mary, just had new bone scans and new cancer cell count tests. It's GONE! Cancer, that is. She's really happy. I'm beginning another cleanse this week with an 86 yr old lady with cancer and has tons of other problems. I'll let you know how she does. Take Care and God Bless, Karen

Hi everyone, This is my first post to the list so here it goes : ) John C. DeLeon died on February 28, 1938 in Madison County, Granite City, Illinois. Prior to this he lived in Henry County, Geneseo, Illinois until at least 1901. At that point he had some big troubles and abandoned his family and disappeared. I believe the John C. in Granite City is the same man, my gg grandfather. If anyone has a connection or has seen a reference to the name DeLeon that may be helpful, I would much appreciate an email. This has been slow going since my gg grandfather was trying to evade people he knew. He might have been with a woman named Corrie T. Merwin. They may have gotten married, but I really don't know what happened after 1901. Thank you...keeping my fingers crossed, Gabrielle Denver, Colorado
Hi; I already own my Brinks and enjoy readiing it often. HI; Can anyone tell me about the availability of NORTON'S MADSON COUNTY HISTORY? My cousin Joanne and I descend from Lemuel Southard and were recently made aware that his son Lemuel Jr, wrote a piece in that publication about the history of the Chouteau. Can you tell me if there is an existing list of the Madison County families that went to the Goldfields of California in the several wagon trains that left Madison Co IL? Did a local newspaper in the area record the event, probably July-August of 1852. We know, for instance, from his obituary that Lemuel Sr was one of those families, but we have lost track of Lemuel's sister Christine Southard Sparks, and a list of the other families on the wagon train could tell us if she was among the several families in the party not mentioned in her brother's obit of 1917. Thanks for any assistance you can offer. Shirley Southard Schach
