    3. Hi All, Well I just got to my parents house in new york from visiting a family reunion in madison county of some distant relatives who started out in the Alton area in the 1850s.I live in Alaska.I learned so much this weekend my head is spinning. The reunion was for the Hoehn famliy.I spent much time in the libraries and court house finding great stuff.I also visited the grave sites of my G G G Grandparents in the Alton City Cem.I am so happy to have learn so much in only a few days. One thing I found out was that That grandfather was a blacksmith in Alton who mad Keys and locks for the Civil war Alton prison. Now I want to find a key or lock that was made by him,and buy it. Any suggestions? Also his last shop before he died in 1873 was listed as on the corner of 4th and state streets, If thats the intersection behind the Hayner library.(info not infront of me) It looked to me like the only building standing that is original is on one corner, painted red, brick.Does anyone know how I would find out if that was the corner his shop was in?He lived there too. Thanks in advance for your help. 1. Stavely
    2. I have just returned home from a homecoming at Paris Landing State Park, TN where descendants of families from the Land Between the Lakes met for a weekend of searching and sharing. What fun we had and I was very fortunate to find some long lost family and I also got to meet several cousins. However, I do still have several elusive relatives. After talking to folks at the homecoming, I believe even more than before that some of my ancestors went to Granite City, after leaving Stewart, Houston, Henry, and Humphreys Co, TN. I am looking for Tuggles and Stavelys, as well as James N. Patton. If there is someone who could do some look-ups for me, I would be ever so grateful. I have Wyatt Tuggle, age 43 and his wife, Elizabeth Talitha Stavely, age 48, in the 1850 Stewart Co, TN. After that, I have no other info on these folks. I would like to find them and I have seen the Stavely name on this list a couple of times. I do not know who Elizabeth's parents were and am hoping to find them, also. I think that she had a brother, Eli, who married and raised his family in Stewart Co, TN James N. Patton married Amanda Elizabeth Tuggle, d/o Wyatt and Elizabeth, in 1868. I can't find James and Amanda in any of the neighboring counties in TN. However, they had two daughters that married men in Houston Co, TN. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Anne Cathey Smith

    1. Looking for a Church
    2. Melissa Miller
    3. I am looking for what was the "German Evangelical Lutheran Church" in Alton. In the 1886-1887 city directory for Alton it shows it by that name and that it is located at the "Corner of Eighth and Henry streets". I am wanting to find the records for this church. Is there a church at that location still? What's the name of it now? Where are the records? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com

    2. Patty I live on the same Street as Sacred Heart Church in Granite City. I is now Holy Family Church on Washington Avenue. The name of the newspaper is the Granite City Press Record, 1815 Delmar, Granite City, IL 62040 618-876-2000. I would be happy to look up the obit for you, however, I don't know how soon I can do that because my mother has just been informed she has cancer and needs surgery ASAP. I am her primary care giver at home, so I won't be going to the library for a while. Arlene

    3. Dear Patty, The Granite City Press Record back issues are on film in the Granite City Public Library. Since you have an exact date, I believe they will look it up and send it to you. At that time, Sacred Heart Church was one of the Catholic Churches in Granite City. I believe it is now a different name. It was on Washington AVenue, at about 23rd or 24th street. 3. Hello, I am new to your list and have just learned that my great-grandfather died on June 5, 1931 in Granite City, Illinois. The "story" is that he was hit by a car when he was drunk, but I don't know if that is true. He was buried at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Edwardsville, Illinois after a funeral at Sacred Heart Church (not sure where the church was located). Would anyone be willing to locate his obituary notice and send me a copy. I would be happy to pay for copying and postage costs. It would be greatly appreciated. Or could someone tell me the names and addresses of the newspapers that his obit might have been printed in so that I could write to them to request it. If anyone has any other suggestions for how to find out what the circumstances were for his death, I would love to hear from them. Thank you for your time in advance Patty in Colorado

    3. The website for the Madison County Historical Society/Madison County Historical Museum is www.plantnet.com/museum. I maintain both this site and the genealogical society site, although time doesn't always permit as frequent updates as I'd like. Both the historical society/museum and the genealogical society have research rooms and offer a wealth of material on Madison County and some of the surrounding counties. The hours of the museum are on the web site, and they are: Wed - Fri 9 am - 4 pm and Sunday 1 pm - 4 pm.
