    3. Dottie: Sec 34 Two 6 R 8 W is about 2 mi east of Moro. Look at your Madison County map. 1873 Atlas shows "First preaching was by a Baptist missionary at home of Zenas Webster in about 1834 on Sec. 34. "The twsp is mostly prairie, interspersed with grove of oak timber, which renders it interesting The soil is pre-eminently adapted to the culture of wheat; a yield of 40 to 50 bushels to the acre is often realized. A large settlement soon followed the first settlers , (from Kentucky) etc.-------" 1906 ATLAS shows: Gaius Paddock owning 40 acres in SW corner of 34. My current plat book is not available right now. Good luck !!!!! Roland Bauer on the bluffs in beautiful Collinsville, IL Dotte Schneider wrote: > Greetings, > > Must apologize for an error in my recent post. 2. I feel awfully constrained all of a sudden. Things seem so relaxed and comfortable there for a while. Too bad. I glance at all of them - no big deal to me. ALLEN COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY Ft Wayne Indiana Http://www/acpl.lib.in.us has the following census All mortality schedules 1850 - 1880. Ill census - 1825, 30, 35, 45, 55, 65. There is so much more;but I thought maybe these above dates would be helpful to someone researching in Illinois.

    1. WEBSTER LAND PATENT - MADISON COUNTY
    2. Dotte Schneider
    3. Greetings, Must apologize for an error in my recent post. (Also sorry I hadn't included a proper subject line.) I had mentioned a piece of property in range 13, but actually the land is in RANGE EIGHT. We are looking forward to visiting Madison County in the very near future, and will hope to find the exact piece of land ("patent") that had belonged to my g/g/g/grandfather, ZENAS WEBSTER. The description is as follows: "east half of southeast quarter of secion 34 in township 6 (north) of range 8 (west)......." which we believe to be fairly close to Edwardsville. Zenas Webster died in his home on that property on May 14, 1844 - in his 58th year, and must have been buried nearby. Sadly we have not been able to locate his gravesite, and hope someone may be able to help? Seeking any information in regard to the above property - which was held in common with one SPROUT W. PADDOCK. Are there any Paddock descendants still living in Madison County today? Warm wishes to all, Dotte Schneider Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri

    2. Two miles east of Moro is on Rte 159! The Paddock-Flagg place. The Flaggs lived on the west side of the road (named Springfield Road then) in a house which burned just this past spring. The Paddocks lived on the east side of the road. The big house was torn down in about 1964-65.

    2. I don't know, sometimes I learn things for these notes. Except for the roll call for a test! I didn't learn anything about that. But things pertaining to genealogy, I have picked up infor in some of these notes. And really enjoy some of them. However, some are uselesses. So, what do we do?

    2. The Paddock's owned property in Fort Russell Township (what range I don't have handy). That property is located about 5 miles north of Edwardsville, just north of the intersection of Rt 140 & Rt 159.

    3. The land described in this deed was in Madison County at the time of the deed but in subsequent years other counties were formed from Madison. I believe range 13 is in Jersey County. I ll try to look when I get to a Jersey plat book, Mine is out "on loan". Does the death notice give any other names or mention a town? 3. Dear "List" ....... I am new to the Madison County list, and hope somebody will know something about a piece of land near Edwardsville. I am looking for anyone with knowledge of the property that had been "patented" to ZENAS WEBSTER in 1820. I would especially like to know the name of the current land owner of that property.....the east half of the south east quarter of section 34 in township 22 of range 13. Apparently this 80 acres and another adjoining 40 acres he owned must have been fairly close to Edwardsville. G/G/G/Grandfather Webster died there in 1844, and must be buried on that property or nearby. Does anybody know anything about that piece of land today? Thanks for ANY information in regard to the surname WEBSTER (early 1800s) or that particular piece of land. With every good wish, Dotte Schneider Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri

    2. PLEASE do not respond to queries by just hitting REPLY, if you are answering a specific question i.e. "Land Grants" (7-11-99) please just email the person concerned. It was also suggested to mention Madison County in the subject line for people such as myself who delete all email of unkown origin. Let's keep this list helpful instead of annoying in its repetitiveness. And I'll stop complaining now. Valerie

    1. FORTH & PATTERSON
    2. Crouse, Lyle R. and Patricia A.
    3. I just signed on to this list and would like to post surnames and see if anyone can help me. I am researching WADE and FORTH in Macoupin Co. However, the 1900 census show my gg-grandmother living in Madison Co. with George E. Patterson and his wife Lucy. It says mother so I am assuming she is Lucy's mother. Her name is Mahaley FORTH and she was born in 1829 in KY. She was the mother of Amanda who married Hamilton Duke WADE and they lived in Chesterfield. She also had a son Charles who married Ida L. and they were living in Macoupin Co., South Palmyra twp in 1900. If anyone is researching the FORTH'S I would appreciate hearing from them. My guess is that Mahaley died in the early 1900's so if anyone has access to obituaries I would also appreciate a search of them. Thanks, Pat

    3. Lynn I rember the Illinois Central well living next to railroads A fireman was one who shoveled the coal and kept the boiler pressure up, prior to the diesel electric engines that they have now. One thing the Railroads keep separate records from social security and he wouldn't be listed there. I have never had an occasion to use their records but I understand they are quite thorough and would very informative. 2. Thank you, because I deleted most of them, then come to find out there was some information on some of the last that I did open. I also wish that ILMADISO could be in the subject line. I often delete email if I do not know who is sending it, mainly because if I open one of those porno emails I would be bombarded with 100s of them. Just a suggestion. Angela

    1. Surnames
    2. I want to encourage you to keep putting those surnames on the different sites that request or allow you to do so. I have been at this for about 6 months -- that is putting the name Isenberg in. Well yesterday came a e mail from Texas that she was in the line. Just what I have been looking for. She can supply a list of names going back to 1858 forward -- so it does work.

    2. JBar has a very valid point. (UNSUBSCRIBE, 7-10-99) This list has turned into a junk-e-mail source for me. It is not a bulletin board. If you are responding to one person, email to THAT person's email address instead of lazily hitting the "re:" button. The roll call thing every few months or so is okay but I can't and won't read all this extra stuff that has nothing to do with real research. Thanks to the people who use descriptive subject headings. Valerie Stagaman TIRPAK, SEKORA 1890-1960
