A couple of weeks ago I heard from a lady who had picked up my email address from some where on the "net". Anyway she had a gggrandfather who was brother of mine - so we have combined and now we have a lot. Do not know what to do with this? Where does this go? Would this be something that the Madison County one would want? This family starts in Hamil & Alhambra and moves toward Troy, St Jacob, and Collinsville. I really do not want to fuss with the LDS right now, just want it to go somewhere local so future generations in that area will be able to get their hands on it. Advice and thoughts please. Hi, Just saw your e-mail concerning a census list for Madison County. I just returned from a trip to the Edwardsville Library in madison county and they have a whole room dedicated to geneology. I was able to obtain a wealth of information there. They have volunteers to do look-ups but it would be a worthwhile trip if you could make it. You can also do some things on-line but I've misplaced their e-mail address. Good luck. Hi, I'm new to this list. But I was wondering how I could get a 1920 Census of Madison Co,ILL. in book form. Or maybe someone might even have this info. I sure would be a happpyy Camper!!! Our microfilm at Williard Library for that year is pretty faded. The ancestor that I'm looking for is Harper, John Henry age 50 supposedly born in Clark Co,IN. That's funny... I never thought of looking there. Don't know why. It's just been so long, I guess... Vince
Do any of you have the name DeROUSSE, or can trace it back to Philadelphia, PA? I have Louis Theodore DeROUSSE, s/o George Andreas DeROUSSE, the emigrant, who served under Napoleon! Vince

Mail came back so I'll try sending this again: I know they are out of business, but would anyone know if the employment records are still around, and if so, who would have them. Some of you told me all about this brick company, unfortunately, I deleted your messages thinking I knew everything there was to know about it. How much I still have to learn! Lynn DeTrano
I have to resubmit my query, I was wrong on a few things. Ever heard of ELSIE LORRAINE SMITH -born abt 1930, Madison County, Alton, IL? She had a baby (boy) PA in 1942 - was not married. Her Great Aunt adopted boy, at least we think she was the Great Aunt. Heard she married in PA and had 4 more boys. She is somehow connected to my great grandfather, Jacob Smith. Jacob and his wife Nettie lived at 2811 Residence Street, Alton. Jacob died 30 Dec. 1943 and is buried in Madison County. Jacob's first wife was Mary Snodgrass. Heard Elsie died of asthma attack in PA. I'm really anxious to find out how she is related to Jacob. Lynn
Thanks for the information Carol. German can be translated; that's a lot better than no records at all! Appreciate your reply. Good hunting to you.
I'm pretty sure Marine didn't have a newspaper back then or now. The Highland paper carried most of there news. The Highland library carries all the microfilmed copies of the newspapers. The early to mid 1800's are in german though. Carol Carol Jo Thompson wrote: > Was there a newspaper in the community of Marine during the 1800s? The Illinois Terminal RR connected Springfield, IL, with Danville and Peoria, IL, and St. Louis, MO. The railroad, which was once known as the Illinois Traction Co., used to operated interurban trolleys and electrically-powered freight service. By the late 1950's, Illinois Terminal had lost most of its passenger trolley business and had switched to diesel locomotives for pulling freight. On September 1, 1981, Norfolk & Western (Now Norfolk Southern R. R.) bought Illinois Terminal; IT was merged into N&W on May 8, 1982. Hope this helps. this helps.
I just now accessed it. Robt
Was there a newspaper in the community of Marine during the 1800s? If so, does anyone know the name of it and if it's available someplace in the county -- either on microfilm or as hardcopy? Thanks nks

At one time, I was attending SIUE. They have the Intelligencer on microfilm. While I cannot do lookups due to distance, perhaps someone else can help. Does anyone know my Grandma Mable Ryan/Fulcher, who was head custodian and/or cook at Prather? Very tiny lady, around ninety pounds and real dark brown hair. Would love to hear from anyone with old stories about her. Grandma died in July 1989, at 68 years old. She would have worked at Prather in the mid to late 1970's. Can anyone tell me what towns are in Venice Twp. I am looking to find an obituary for Mahaley Forth who died after 1900. In the 1900 census she was living with Geo. E. & Lucy Patterson and was 71 years old. She was also the mother of Amanda Elizabeth (Forth) Wade who died in Macoupin Co. in 1898. Thanks, Pat
I just clicked on it and got right in. Have gotten in easily before also. I know that some of the issues have been microfilmed. You might try and contact the Madison County Genealogical Society. They are based in the Edwardsville Library. The microfilm for the newspaper for that early an issue would be in that collection. If not let me know and I may be over in the general area in a week or two. I just can't committ at this point. Another possibility is the Historical Library in Springfield, they have copies of most of the papers in Illinois and will do lookups. Let me know if I can help.
