    3. One source to try is the newspaper index located at the Hayner Public Library, 326 Belle St., Alton 62002 (618) 462-0651 A search by mail is $5.00 per name. The Alton Telegraph Newspaper 1836-1933 Index is a 4 volume set, located above the microfilm readers. The Illinois State Historical Library Microfilm Room also has a set. I believe it was a WPA project. -----Original Message----- From: AlnGeorg@aol.com <AlnGeorg@aol.com> To: ILMADISO-L@rootsweb.com <ILMADISO-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, August 28, 1999 1:46 PM Subject: Looking for Needle in a Haystack >I am searching for information on William D. 2. Nancy Burchianti
    3. Your information differs a bit from what I found on a German page somewhere about naming customs. The first name was really like our baptismal name (middle name) There were many Johans, Fredericks, etc listed as first names however the child (or adult) actually went by his middle name. That is why it is so important to find the middle name of an ancestor. Generally speaking the first boy was named after the fathers , father, and first girl named after the mother's mother (I may be misquoting) but it went something like this. If I can find my print-outs on the naming customs I'll let you know where you can find the info.
