    1. RE: [ILMADISO-L] Southern Illinois Prison
    2. Czerniak, James, SSG, 217EIS, ISE
    3. Hello, Just a shot in the dark, Have you tried the following web page? http://www.idoc.state.il.us/ this is the Dept. of corrections web page for Illinois. There maybe someone that can help you there. Jim Greetings List :o) I just recently obtained the Civil War Pension File for my GAG-Granduncle, Daniel Lynch and in there, were statements that he was a guard at the "Southern Illinois Prison (Penitentiary)" for a time, after the Civil War was over. I have done a 'Google' search, but have come up empty handed on what prison this may be and where it was located. By chance does anyone out there have any ideas and/or know if it is possible to obtain records of employment from such a facility? Thanks Kelly ==== ILMADISO Mailing List ==== Cyndi's List of Genealogy Links-Lots of helpful links for your research. http://www.cyndislist.com/

    1. [ILMADISO-L] O'Fallon Historical Society Website Grand Opening
    2. After several months of work, and a few months of being "unofficially" open, we would like to invite you to stop by the official grand opening of the O'Fallon Historical Society website at http://www.ofallonhistory.org. O'Fallon is located in St. Clair County, approximately 15 miles east of St. Louis. Our initial offering includes the complete text and pictures from the 1954 O'Fallon Centennial Program, an as of now partial (but ever growing) index to marriage and death notices from the O'Fallon Progress, articles on O'Fallon businesses, transcriptions of some of the old "social columns" from the Progress (covering many nearby communities), some vintage photographs from our collections, and much more! We have message boards where you can post both genealogical and history queries, and you can search the index of the Society's collections online. We are very excited about our debut and hope that you will stop by to have a look. The site as you see it now is just the beginning. Over time we will be adding many more photographs, additional information on businesses, and the old Schwarz Funeral Home records, just to name a few things. We even hope to have a "virtual tour" of the Historical Society Museum one of these days! Oh, and if you stop by, please take a moment to sign our Guestbook! Best regards, Nan Cole, webmaster The O'Fallon Historical Society, Inc. www.ofallonhistory.org

    1. [ILMADISO-L] Where is Meredian 3?
    2. Hi listmembers, I recently found the following information on Andrew Linenfaelser (I am thinking he might be my Anton Linenfelser): IL Public Land Purchase Records, Vol 326, pg 67, ID 175116 Linenfaelser, Andrew Type Section Sect TWP Range Meredian Acres Price Total Date FD SWSE 36 04N 05W 3 4,000 $125 $5000 22 Jan 1848 I looked at the 1860 Madison Co., IL census report where my Anton Linenfelser was recorded. It showed him living in TWP 4N Range 5W, Highland PO. I believe that this Andrew is my Anton. Would anyone have access to Madison Co., IL tax records for 1849 and 1850?? It should show how many acres he had then. Anton was in Madison Co., IL as early as 1846 as per his intent for naturalization papers. He showed in 1850 Madison Co., IL census as Anthony Lindenfelser (and yes, the present name of Linenfelser came from the earlier name of Lindenfelser). He is my husband's great-great-grandfather. Thank you in advance for your help. Judy Linenfelser

    1. [ILMADISO-L] Sophia Lucker/Luecker & Karl or Charles Mueller/Miller (1860 census?)
    2. I am trying to locate this family: Sophia Luecker married Charles Mueller on March 2, 1856. in Madison Co. I was given 1870 census information, Chas & Sophia Miller were the names given to the census enumerator. They lived in Township 5-7 (Edwardsville). Family members say they lived near Hamel. I was wondering if someone that has access could do a 1860 census lookup? Also, if anybody has ties to the above surnames, I would welcome any correspondence. Mike Schubert --- [email protected]

    1. [ILMADISO-L] St. John's Cemetery - 1913
    2. Can anyone tell me if any of the cemetery books from the Madison County Genealogical Society has St. John's Cemetery in Collinsville, IL listed? I know there's about 10 volumes and I want to make sure I order the right book. My Great-Great-Grandfather died in 1913 and the death certificate lists the burial place as St. John's Cemetery. Thanks for any help! Sheryl

    1. [ILMADISO-L] Willoughby and Gates
    2. On July 3, 1840 James G. Willoughby married Mary Jenette Gates in Madison County. Their daughter Celestia Almira was born January 17, 1844 in Collinsville, and on Jan 1, 1863 she married Benjamin Clarkson Cressey in St. Louis. First wife, Mary J. appears to have died before 1870, because James does not have a spouse in the 1870 Madison County Census. On October 2, 1879 James G. Willoughby married Mary C. Randle in Madison County. This record indicates that James' father was William Willoughby. James G. and Mary C. are listed in the 1900 Madison County census, but neither in the 1910. James is reported to have been born in Delaware, and Mary in New York. Other Willoughby and Gates families with those birthplaces are in the Madison County census records but I have not been able to make any connections. I'm looking for any information about these families. Also - wondered if newspapers exist for the Collinsville/Troy area between 1860 and 1910, and where they might be kept. Thanks, Nancy

    1. [ILMADISO-L] Dubois/Milam
    2. I am trying to find info on Joel Dubois and Elam MIlam. First I have a land record in Dickson Co., TN of Joel selling land 1830. I can't figure out where he went. He was murdered about 1835 near Nashville, TN on his return trip from LA after selling his crops. His daughter, Amanda Dubois Brown, was mentioned in a bio of her husband stating that she was born in TN and as a young girl moved to Troy, Madison Co., IL. I think that Elam Milam married Joel's widow, Nancy. Elam is in the Madison Co., IL 1840 census. The Milam's moved to Washington Co., IL and are in the 1850 census. I have already looked in IRAD for marriages and land records. Does anyone have access to other records for marriage, probate and/or Land records for Madison Co.? Can you please do a look up for me? Thank you. Kathy Pugh
