I was wondering if anyone on this list knows if the Class of 67 will be having a class union for 35 years in 2002? Thanks Wanda
Pam sent this information to me. Not making the national USGenweb lists so thot you might want to pass on to your lists. Some cousins got together, transcribed and put the 1920 Perry County KY census online. Wow! http://www.kyroots.com/perry/1920census.html Gloria

When going to the Alton Cemetery go north on Homer Adams Parkway - after stoplights at Washington Ave will go thru another light and around slight curve to left will see graveyard on left ate next street turn left at next street (T road) turn left entrance on left there is a building there with caretaker but I do not know his hours. I know this because my mother Frances Anita (Percy) Jedliska is buried there as is my paternal grandparents Manus. Barbara A Manus-Wyzard
The answer to the letters on the headstone was: A fraternal insurance society called Home Forum Benefit Order. Thanks....... Patrick ><> My Home Page: http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/zzduffy

I also have a grandfather buried in Oakwood in Alton but have never been told where the Ceme. is. Hope you have better luck then I did. Nina
Nina Oakwood Cemetery aka Upper Alton Cemetery is located on Homer Adams Parkway just west of Washington Avenue on the north side of Alton. Across from the cemetery is a golf course. You should be able to find the streets if not the cemetery or golf course on a map. You may want to try "Map Quest" at (www.mapquest.com). Go to this site and just put in Oakwood Avenue, Alton IL 62002. The next screen will give you 6 small maps. However scroll down and click on "show next". The next screen will continue with the small maps and the first one has the cemetery showing very nicely. Just click on the map and you'll get an enlarged version of the area from which you can manuever in all directions. Debbi Geer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Just a thought, but have you checked to see if he fought in any of the Indian Wars. What was his name and where is the tombstone? Jim Hello all, In my research I have found a headstone that has the following design on it and it has me stumped .Have any of you ever run across this symbol or know what it stands for ????On this stone is a circular shield. Within the shield is a flag on a pole , flag flying towards your right as you face the stone . In the place where our stars are..is a single ?star or flower. Crossing the flag is a tomahawk , business end toward your left..sharp end down). The handle appears to be wraped & I don't see any bowl (like to smoke it) or feathers dangling down from the handle end. Crossing this is a skeleton key & crossing the middle is a banner with HOME FORUM written on it. At the bottom of the shield are the initials H. F. B. D. or the D maybe an O. He did enlist from Greene Co.,IL. during the Civil War and served under Capt. Thomas H. Flynn, He might have been in the ranger's or a special branch of the military in the Civil War- or belonged to a modern day gun & rifle club. Does anyone have a reading for the OAKWOOD CEMETERY in Alton Illinois? I have a death certificate for a WILLIAM TURNER GOAD and it states that he is buried there. His Wife JENNIE BELLE GOAD died on May 11.1930. Can you tell me if she is buried there also. If not do you know where she is buried? Any information will be deeply appreciated. Thanking you in advance. Shirley Goad in Louisiana
Shirley Oakwood Cemetery is the same as Upper Alton Cemetery. The cemetery is not in published form but records are very well kept. If you contact the office manager and tell what you know (names and dates), they will be able to tell you where the burials are as well as others buried on the same lot which could lead to other family members. Last I knew they were trying to get records (burials) on a computer program but I don't know if they ever were successfuly in starting or completing it. At that time I think the number of burials was over 20,000 and that was around 5 years ago. Debbi Geer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? HFBO stands for "Home Forum Benefit Order" according to the web site "Secret Societies and Fraternal organizations with abbreviations, with slogans and mottos, a complete list" http://www.exonumia.com/art/society.htm. There are links to other secret society web pages here, but I didn't investigate very far. Oh, the places the internet can take us.... Jan, If the cemetery is not inventoried, just drop me a line. I'm slow but sure. I'll be happy to trot out there and see what I can find and take a picture or two. Donnell
Jan I believe that all the cemeteries in Jarvis Township have been inventoried by the Madison County Genealogical Society and published in the continuing cemetery series.
