    3. Does anyone on the list have access to the "Madison County, Illinois Cemetery Book" (other than Volume I)? I'm hoping to find an entry for a Peter MARSTEIN/MORSTAIN who died between 1856-1859. _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

    3. Marita I think the only way you can get a copy of the 1818 census is from a printed book. I don't recall seeing where the 1818 census is available on microfilm. The book that I saw it in was an old one which I think was printed sometime between 1875 and 1900. Debbi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! 3. Thanks so much, Debbi! I have a feeling that it probably slid down into the dirt and got covered by mud and weeds. I'm so glad that I took a picture of it! There are no probate records listed in Madison County. Unless she died in Clinton County, my photo might be the only record of her death date! Mr. Morgan's list is a blessing to those who are researching ancestors in Helvetia Twp. A whole bunch of my ancestors are on his list, including some important ones whose stones I didn't find. 3. Nancy Unless someone in the Society did something and didn't tell me (cemetery committee chairperson), I wouldn't know what happened. As you said it was sitting off to the side and it's possible that the person who did the inventory didn't see it. If I were you, I'd contact the Bond Co IL Genealogical Society. I believe that they did an inventory several years ago and you could see if they have it on their list. If not, my guess would be that they too didn't see it in its location. Since the MCGS hasn't published the inventory yet, I'm going to make note and make sure it does get included. The person who supplied the inventory to IL Trails has granted me permission to publish it. He also knows that I'm going to add the information from E E Morgan's diary to make a better inventory so that people will know in the future where their ancestors are buried (with and without a stone). 3. Thanks Debbi, The stone was very legible just a few weeks before the person walked the cemetery. What worries me is that it was broken off at the base and I'm wondering if someone might have picked it up before the cemetery was walked. It was small enough that it could even have been obliterated by a rain storm. I know it could have been missed - we almost didn't see it because it was sitting off to the side of the main group of graves. What we would like to know is if someone from the Madison County Genealogical Society might have "rescued" the stone and put it somewhere for safekeeping. The stone reads "Amy...John Hobbs...died Nov. 30(?), 1887. It has clasped hands at the top. I have Morgan's list but it ends in 1881. 3. Nancy The person who did the research at Sugar Creek Cemetery did only a stone by stone reading and only for those that were legible at the time. I figure that he probably did it in a rush of some sort but had good intentions. I also know that there are probably many graves for which there is no stone. A diary kept by E E Morgan who lived in that area during the mid-1800's makes mention of people who died from the St. Rose IL area and where they were buried. I suspect that several mentioned do not have markers and probably never did. Debbi Geer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! 3. First, apologies. I accidently hit the wrong button and may have sent a blank message to the list. I need to find out who I can contact concerning the Sugar Creek Cemetery in Helvetia Township. I was there two summers ago and photographed the tombstone of an ancestor's wife. The stone was broken and just leaning against a tree or something. A month or so after I visited the cemetery, somebody posted a list of the graves on the Illinois Trails web site. The stone that I found was not included. I tried to contact the submitter, but received no reply. Recently I've been corresponding with a descendant of the woman whose stone I photographed. I'm wondering if the stone is still there, or what happened to it. I believe the cemetery was being maintained by members of the Madison County Genealogical Society. Please help. This is very important. Thanks! Nancy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Sports - sign up for Fantasy Baseball http://sports.yahoo.com
