Diane I tried locating John, Ellen and Leola Lake in the marriage records of IL and the 1860 and 1870 census for Madison Co IL. None of them are listed. Are you sure they were in Madison Co IL? The only other possibility is that they were living with another family (relatives or non-relatives) and therefore would not be in an index if the indexer decided to index the head of household only person. Where in Madison Co would they have been - Collinsville, Alton, Edwardsville or ?. Debbi Geer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Try FREE Yahoo! Speaking of the Godfrey, IL. I've been looking at the Census for the 1870 Census for Madison County. I am having a hard time determing, which sections of the census would be the Godfrey area. The top part of the census is determined by these names some names such as alton, and Alhambra, but others have township 5 range 9 or someother number as that. I am trying to find the exact location of a John Belger, and a Laura or Mary Camp. John was from NEW YORK and single born in April 16, 1845 and Mary was born right in Alton on December 25, 1849. She have been living with a woman by the name of Laura or Mary born in Prussa. and her brothers may have been Henry, Louis, John. Anyway, If someone could look this up, or give me some better way of finding these people in the census that I am looking at right now. Is there anyone out there that can do a lookup for a William and Elizabeth (nee Pickett) Stewart. They were from the Wood Station, Fosterburg area, they had 10 children. My great grandfather was their son Archie Stewart (1895-1931); he was born in Madison County, died in Omaha NE, but buried in Madison County. Here is his obituary to provide further information. Any help would be gladly appreciated. Thank you Archie Stewart Dies -- 1931 Archie Stewart, 36 years old, a son of William Stewart, a resident of Wood river, died Omaha, Neb., last Wednesday and the body has been brought here for burial. Stewart is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ora B. Stewart, his father and four brother and five sisters. The brothers are Charles of Omaha, William of Chicago, and James and George of Alton; the sisters are Mrs. Mayme Hall of Omaha, Mrs.Dalton of St. Louis, Mrs. Jessie Franklin of Cincinnati, and Mrs. Minnie Curtis and Mrs. Helen Armstead of Alton. The funeral will be from the Holy Temple Baptist Church in Upper Alton at 3pm Sunday. The body is at the Russell mortuarary
Awhile back, there was a post asking about a Railroad Sanitarium in Highland, Illinois. I spoke with my sister, who recalled that the railroad was one of the largest employers in that area for some time, and the term referred to a sanitarium/hospital built or funded by the railroad. Hope this is helpful to you. She recalls hearing about this as a little girl. Although we are from St. Louis, she was more familiar with our relatives in Highland better than I was. (I was a change of life baby -- more of an accident, although Mom called me a surprise!) thanks, Kate Kelly

Sheryl, I would appreciate a look up for Thole Kaiser Thank you, Betty [email protected]
Sheryl, I would like the address, just on the off-chance that this really is the same man. Do you know what the fee is for copies? Thanks, John
Sheryl, if it is not too much trouble, could you look up the name DILLENBURG in the Naturalizaation Index? Thanks. Peggy [email protected] wrote: > I found a Joseph Anton Hoefle listed in the Naturalization and Intention of > Madison County, IL An Index 1816-1900
I found a Joseph Anton Hoefle listed in the Naturalization and Intention of Madison County, IL An Index 1816-1900 He was naturalized in Sept. 1855 Book Page C2-103, IIntent 1851 Book Page C2-103 C2 would be Natrualization Record, Apt. 1855-May 1857. If this is who you're looking for, I can supply you with an address to write to for a copy of the naturalization. Sheryl
Could someone do a look-up of naturalization papers? According to the 1920 census my great-great-grandparents, Joseph and Josephine Hefner (Hoeffner on the census) were naturalized in 1885. Since they were living in Alton then, I presume their application would have been filed in Madison County courthouse. Since I live in Virginia, I'd appreciate help from a local set of eyes. Hi! I was wondering if anyone has any info on the family of Ike MEDLEY. He appears in the 1920 census as age 30, born Missouri, wife Emma, age 26, born Missouri, daughter Ruth, age 7, born Illinois. Apparently they lived on Sixth street or State Street in Venice in 1920. I think this Ike is the brother to my great grandmother. The other siblings lost track of Ike in later years, and I would like to know anything I can find out about him, inlcuding date of death, if he had anymore kids, etc.... Sally
Sally Based on the information about your Medley family, I did some searching in the SSDI. Didn't find an Ike or an Isaac with Illinois ties but I do think I found Emma. Of course I presuming Ruth married and therefore don't have a married surname for her. Here's the information for Emma - EMMA MEDLEY - b 16 Jan 1894; d 14 Feb 1988; last residence 62025 (Edwardsville, Madison, IL); last benefit (none specified); SS# 346-14-3279; issued Illinois Hope this helps. I'm sure an obit would at least provide her husband's name, the children, and the cemetery. If the right Emma, then you could check out the cemetery records for the husband's death and resort to an obit for him to see if his parents are mentioned. Good luck.
