    2. This is slightly incorrect, Eliza Curry did marry James Coleman Deatherage and move to Venice, but after 4 children, Edward Albert (my grandfather), Ralph Gottlieb, Louis, and a baby that died in infancy. But after Louis was born, they divorced and James moved to Missouri with Ralph. Eliza went east and married someone named Appleby. The 2 surviving children were raised by Louisa Jane Linton Deatherage.

    3. Bonnie Was Nellie your great-aunt or great-great-aunt? Was James Coleman Deatherage her brother? We haven't talked for some years, but we need to get together. I have information on the Curry family that you probably would be interested in. Your great-great-grandmother Rebecca Carpenter was married 4 times: 1) Mr Curry and had one son Jeremiah; 2) Mr Stevens and had one son Charles; 3) Mr Lucas and had one son Minor; and 4) Henry Girth and had two sons John and Sam. I'm John's great-granddaughter. Debbi Geer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Movies - coverage of the 74th Academy Awards http://movies.yahoo.com/

    3. Alton has had one main newspaper for many decades and it's went through several name changes - Alton Telegraph, Alton Evening Telegraph and now The Telegraph. I'm not sure about Venice, but the obit may have appeared in the Granite City IL newspaper (?Granite City Press or Journal). It may have also appeared in the St. Louis Globe-Democrat (last printed in the 1970's or 1980's) and/or the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Venice also could have used an East St. Louis newspaper but I'm not familiar with those if any existed or exists today. Debbi Geer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. You may want to contact Marlene Shake at ([email protected]). She is researching the Deatherage family. One of the family members was James Coleman Deatherage who was the son of James Polk Deatherage and his wife Louisa Linton. James Coleman was married to Eliza Curry in Alton 1896 and by 1900 they had moved to Venice where James died in 1941. James Coleman was born 1874 in Dorchester, Macoupin Co IL. He may be a brother or cousin to Nellie. Debbi Geer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Movies - coverage of the 74th Academy Awards http://movies.yahoo.com/

    3. Bill If you have access to a map of Illinois or Madison Co IL, here's where Paddock's Grove and Liberty Prairie are located - Liberty Prairie - now about 1/10 mile from the intersection of IL highways 140 and 159 Paddock's Grove - about 1 to 1-1/2 miles north of the intersection of IL highways 140 and 159 So you see the two were basically backyard neighbors. All that's left of Liberty Prairie is the cemetery which is behind (north of) the house which sits on the north side of IL 140 just east of IL 140 and 159 intersection. There's also a church which is just south of that house on the old section of IL 140 which met IL 159 up until a few years ago when about a mile of IL 159 was relocated a tad west of the original location so that it and IL 140 could meet without a zig and a zag as before. Now there's a stop light at the intersection. The church was active until sometime in the 1970's. There was a one-room school across from the house but that was abandoned many years ago by the Edwardsville School District when they got rid of that type of school. My cousins attended it for a few years. After going down over a period of time it was finally torn down. Paddock's Grove was referred to as the area where the Paddock family settled. I don't think the old home place is standing anymore. I think the family who bought the place after the last of family died who lived built an A-frame house on the spot. It was situated next to the Paddock cemetery which is behind the old home location and just a tad north of it. Last I knew I think my uncle was doing the grass mowing but I'm not sure if he still does. Debbi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! 3. Hello, My GG Grandfather and Grandmother (Archibald McCallum, Sr, wife Cecelia, and three children) came to the States in 1858. They left Scotland on 3 May 1858 and ended up with relatives in Madison, County. Anyway, the place was Liberty Prairie. Could someone advise where that would be today? Also, one of their children was born at or near Paddocks Grove. Could someone advise where that would be today. Thanks. Bill McCallum [email protected] Bill and Mary McCallum [email protected]

    2. I would appreciate it if you would. Nellie is/was my greataunt, and I have never met them, I am trying to do some genealogy and would like to at least talk to them. If you would give them my e-mail and tell them I am the granddaughter of Edward Albert Deatherage and give them the opportunity to reach me. If they prefer they can write me at Bonnie Martin, 628 Old Highway 79, Foley, Mo 63347 or call 573-898-9101. Thank You.

    2. Not at all what you asked for but possibly of interest. 1927 Alton City directory lists Smiley E. Bone a foreman for Alton Railway Co. and wife Nancy E. living at 1223 Main Street. Main Street is in the Upper Alton section of town. No other members of the household are mentioned. TOM SAXTON

    2. Nellie Deatherage married Frank Hoover and they had a son Emmett (who later became the Sheriff of Venice). One of these two families adopted the son of Samuel Deatherage and I am trying to find out who he is/was and what happened to him. Also, Smiley and Nancy Bone adopted John LeRoy something and I would like to know who his biological parents were. How do I go about this either on the net or by mail??

    3. My Father was a policeman in Venice in the 40's and 50's. There was a policeman, I think his name was Jake Hoover and he had a son Billy. The last I heard he lived in Madison. I don't remember if he was adopted. If you think there is a connection I will try to locate his address. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2002 7:51 PM Subject: [ILMADISO-L] Looking for information on the Deatherage and Hoover families > Nellie Deatherage married Frank Hoover and they had a son Emmett (who later > became the Sheriff of Venice). 1. [ILMADISO-L] SACK Family Descendants
    2. I am searching for the family and descendants of Friedemann Ludwig Alexander SACK and Louisa Antoinette Von Beesten SACK, who emigrated to Madison, Co. in 1835, together with their 8 children. They lived in Madison County until about 1850, when they moved to Chicago, then on to California. Can SKS tell me which town/church they belonged to? I am assuming they were of the Lutheran faith, although Louisa was a Catholic. I am also seeking the death certificate of Louisa, after 1850 when the census indicated she was 60 years old. Did she die in Madison County or Chicago? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Karen
