Jim, Elder Pleasant Lemay and his wife were charter members of Hopewell church in 1831, and I think he served as pastor until his death. We do have the records, complete, for the old Hopewell church. If not mistaken, I think I've also seen his name in minutes in Ohio and/or Indiana. Although I know nothing about the Union church which you said was near his home in Hilyard township, I do not think Elder Lemay would have attended that Union church, nor would he have joined there, if it was a missionary Baptist church. The records of HOpewell church would show that he attended there, whether or not it was not near his home. I certainly do appreciate the information, and help, in regard to trying to find a deed, and the exact location, of the Hopewell church. I appreciate your mention of abstracts, as that is something I had not thought about in my deed searches. In some rare cases, at least, that might be an option if it was really important, and the deed records did not give the answer.
