I really appreciate what you do to keep us aware of those who have sacrificed for us. I just noticed on the Revolutionary War Monument in Carlinville, you have listed John Creek. I am pretty sure it should be John Cheek. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to find a connection between John's family and my line of Cheeks but so far have not been successful. I am often called Richard Creek by those who just can't quite believe my name really is Cheek so it is not an unusual thing to do.Thanks again for your efforts, Richard Cheek <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<| >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity." -General Dwight David Eisenhower --- On Mon, 5/18/09, W Hinton <wmhntn@frontiernet.net> wrote: From: W Hinton <wmhntn@frontiernet.net> Subject: [ILMACOUP] Virden Monuments To: ilmacoup@rootsweb.com Date: Monday, May 18, 2009, 8:01 AM I have updated the Virden section of Macoupin County Monuments & Memorials with the following monuments : Battle of Virden 1898 Officer Mike Operation Iraqi Freedom The Battle of Virden 1898, dedicated to the Coal Miners in the 1898 Riot of Virden is well worth the time to visit, The only way I know to descibe it is a Scupltured Mural with a lot of detail. A photograph can not do justice for this monument. A big item in the history of coal mining in Macoupin County. http://gillespieil.com/monpg5.html Check out Macoupin County ILGenWeb page at http://www.macoupinctygenealogy.org/. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ILMACOUP-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
