I ditto your comments! I just went to my Ancestry.com account and changed my preferences to allow my E-mail address. Ancestry.com must have recently automatically restricted E-mail addresses because I mine had always been available as far I knew until you called attention to it. Thanks for the heads up. Linda R.F. Arnold _LRFArnold@AOL.com_ (mailto:LRFArnold@AOL.com) Menifee, California Quoted from Cindy Birk Conley, cc White County ILGenWeb: "The Overstreet mailing list is having a fuss over a new feature ancestry has added to make it harder to email other folks, so I checked it out and sent the following members to my White County listmembers: Listmembers, Ancestry has recently added another restriction on their message boards. If you want to directly email someone who has posted to a message board you will likely get a message that the person has CHOSEN to only use ancestry's email system, which makes it hard for anyone who does not have an ancestry subscription. Ancestry seems to have made this choice for everyone. However, if you would like to be contacted directly or off the message board, you can edit your profile or change your preference to give people your email addy, although it is shown as a graphic to keep spam robots from grabbing it. I would suggest you make the change. I went ahead and added a public profile, since I am the board administrator. These public profiles seem to be an attempt to morph ancestry into a social networking website. I'm certainly more interested in finding the immigration record of Robert Savage than going to Twitter or Facebook. You ladies are going to have to pick me up by the shoulders on this one. I don't use the message boards as often as I would like, but I like to know when another "control" is added to our daily lives. There are too many now and more projected I'm afraid. I read Gloria's message 3 times and while I get the general drift, I am a Model T when it comes to Tweet, Twitter and their cousins. Is there a way to explain what is happening in lay terms? Change my email addy? Ancestry is always 'harvesting' something--which they turn around and sell.
