Would this be the church that was built on the old home site of Jacob and Alice Jane (Burch) Post? I believe it was on the "Thomas" corner. If so Jacob and Alice were my great-great grandparents. I just wondered if you found mention of them in your search. Thanks Debra Hayes Brodbeck Linda Kmiecik wrote: > Today at the Macoupin Co. I looked under "B" for Brethren and Baptist, "C" for Church, "V" for Virden, and thought about "G" for German Baptist Church. I noted several deeds between David C. Vaniman and Trustees of the Church of the Brethren and Trustees of the German Baptist Church for other lands. Surely, I thought, such deeds would not be listed under "T" for Trustees! Wrong!!! I found not only the deeds for the Virden Brethren church property in Grantee Book 21, but noted many others for Trustees of Hettick Church, I.O.O.F., Stults Burying Ground (Palmyra), churches in Carlinville, Modesto, and elsewhere, school districts, banks, companies, and many other entities. > > Thus, at least in this 1900-1920 period, it might be wise to look under "T" for trustees of those groups. > > Linda Kmiecik > > Check out Macoupin County ILGenWeb page at http://www.macoupinctygenealogy.org/. > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ILMACOUP-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > >
Debra, I have no idea what preceded the Brethren Church on its location at Dean St. and Finis St. in Virden. The legal description includes Lots 2, 3, & 6 in Block 29 in Hickox addition to the town, now city, of Virden. Three deeds recorded together on the 19th of October 1911 appear consecutively in Deed Book 251, pages 500-501.
