Bill, 1. I use Family Tree Maker for Windows (FTW) and have found it to be satisfactory. On the other hand, I haven't tried any other genealogy software. 2. If you insist upon Windows 98 please get the "Second Edition." I know at least three persons who had 98 (1st Edition) and they either had to remove it OR they are operating their computers at reduced capacity. 3. If you anticipate exchanging files with some family members overseas, or in other states, you might want to consider software that is compatible with their programs. To my knowledge, most genealogy programs can save in GEDCOM for transfer but it is a lot easier when everyone is "on the same page."
