    3. The jpg file format offers the most compression and smallest file sizes. It is widely used for web page pictures. If you scan your own pictures, use a scanning resolution of around 150 DPI (Dots Per Inch). Afterwards, you can use picture editing software to resize (also called resample) the picture after any cropping or editing. Resolutions of 320 X 240 or so are fine for web use.
