Has anyone copied the stones previously for publication? >> Judy, I have a list (follows) that was copied and given to me by a woman who lives near the cemetery. I don't know if this is a list that was published at one time. It is a typewritten list. By the time we had worked to clear the cemetery, we were literally too tired to examine each stone, comparing it to the list for accuracy. We plan to do that when we return in the spring. Later in this email I will give the information my sister and I took from the few stones we could find in the jungle of undergrowth when we visited the cemetery in June of this year. Here is the list I was given a copy of: - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------- Scottville Twp. 12N-R9W Sec. 28 BORN DIED CONWAY Infant son of J.B. & N.A. Conaway Feb. 14, 1864 [No date listed] Sarah Ruyle Conway 1817 1858 CAUDLE John C. 1833 1876 Abigail [no dates given on the list] DUGGER Ada 1 yr. Oct. 10, 1880 DUGGAR James Robert son of Wm. & Polly July 9, 1879 Minerva dau. of Wm. & Polly [no dates given on the list] HOGGATE Tomaco dau. of H. Hoggate 2 yr. 1877 REDFERN John Wesley 1833 1854 Betsy A. dau. of S. & E. 18?? Solomon ? 30 yrs. Apr. 20, ?? Andrew son of E. Redfern 1857 Elizabeth [no dates given on the list] RICE Wife of Wm. Rice ?? 68 yrs. ?? 1830 RUYLE Aaron son of A.C. Ruyle 3 yrs. 1816 [?] Stephen D. son of H & E RULE 11 yrs. 5 da. Jan. 29, 1864 Austin 1810 69 ys. 1879 Andrew 1814 1897 Moses 1780 84 yrs. 1864 Elizabeth 1788 1851 Littleton 1824 ?? 2 sandstones - no names Charlie son of ?? [no dates given on the list] CUMMINS Minnie 1 yr. April 27, 1881 CUMONS ?? 24 yrs. April 28, 1882 [Note typewritten on list:] Anything I have marked in blue was not on the original cemetery listing but was picked up from death records at the courthouse.) [signed:] Thelma Dean Stewart [typewritten not handwritten] - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- Because I have a copy of a copy, I am not sure what was "marked in blue" but it looks like it may have been: Ada Dugger James Robert Duggar Minnie Cummins ?? Cumons I know I saw at least two Dugger/Duggar stones this past Saturday. This listing: CONWAY Infant son of J.B. & N.A. Conaway Feb. 14, 1864 [No date listed] was on the list without parents' initials or birth date, but this is a stone we did examine closely, using shaving cream to easily read the letters and numbers. We also looked closely at this stone: Stephen D. son of H & E RULE 11 yrs. 5 da. Jan. 29, 1864 The list did not give his middle initial or "son of H & E RULE." Note the misspelling of Rule on the stone. I also recall looking at Minerva Redfern's stone. It has more information on it. I believe it said she died at the age of 19. Her stone is the farthest from the front gate, right next to the back fence line. She has a footstone with her initials. Looking back, I wish we had taken the time to examine all the stones more closely, but I don't think we had the energy left! Also, we were eager to visit the nearby MILLER cemetery because some members of the family had never been there. Dark comes early now, so we wanted to leave the RUYLE Cemetery by 3:00 or 3:30 to have time to visit the MILLER Cemetery. Here is the information my sister and I gleaned in June: Nancy J. wife of Austin Ruyle died Feb. 8, 1887 age 66 yrs. 9 mo. 9 days Austin Ruyle died July 6, 1879 age 69 yrs. 4 mo. 15 days A. Ruyle [Andrew] born Feb. 1, 1814 died July 19, 1897 Charity M.C. [on the same stone as A. Ruyle] Wife of A. Ruyle born July 25, 1824 died July 21, 1880 Joseph B. Con___ [Conway?] died Aug. 22, 1869 age 51 yrs. 9 mo. 15 days Sarah wife of L. Connaway died Dec. 27, 1853 age 36 yrs. 3 mo. 4 days Moses Ruyle died April 10, 1864 age 84 yrs. Elizabeth [wife of Moses] died 1851 In June we were unable to get more information from Elizabeth's stone because it was tilted and under a large bramble rose bush. I believe it has more information on it than what we recorded at that time. On Saturday, we set this stone upright. I hope this information is useful and helpful to someone. I will certainly post an update after our next visit. ~~Rhonda Ashby Coulter
