PROCTOR are both buried at Wheeler Cemetery (that's what the sign reads). When we visited it, it was very overgrown and it looked like someone had been digging there recently, which made me very nervous. Joseph H. was born January 18, 1833 and died November 17, 1902." Quote: "Just had to tell you, I went to a genealogy meeting at the Montgomery Society yesterday. It was about genealogy sites on the net. Anyway, the Macoupin site was referred to many times as a group that is doing a great job. People there were impressed on how much census work you have done. All your work is really being noticed." ------------------ Not my fault your family reunion has a wrong date!!!! http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/m_fassoc.htm -------------------- The following msg is sooooo sad. I have lost two of my lines' cemeteries to "don't care about genealogy/cemeteries" attitude. Oh, yes, they DO plow them up. I will get this cem up soon at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/cem.htm Thanks. (Note: if we are missing any other cemeteries, please let me know.) Quote from email: "Hi Gloria Last month, I finally found the Cormack/Powers cemetery, west of the Staunton City limits, next to a railroad line. I have only been looking for 20 years and managed to meet up with a local inhabitant, who took me right to the place. All the tombstones are broken and buried. It was shown on an 1875 plat map and on the 1975 USGS topo map of the area. Problem is, that is it on private land and the owner is refusing to let us clean up the area. It is in the middle of briars, poison ivy and garbage dump. My husband is a pilot and using the topo map and the other coordinates, he has determined that the cemetery is at these coordinates: 39 degrees 01' 02" N Gillespie South 89 degress 48' 05" W Gillespie South It is within eyesight of the Staunton City Cemetery. Thanks for your help. I just want to get this cemetery "on the books" . They are building a large subdivision, directly across the railroad tracks from the cemetery.. I did send a note and photocopy of the topo map, with the cemetery already marked on it (I guess through previous surveys) to Ron Essary, chief archelogist of the Illinois Archeological Preservation Society. He had told me last month, so notify his office." -------------------- That's all folks the old brain can remember. That is why you usually get about 5 consecutive msgs from me if you get one. I forget. Holler if I neglect something important or "it" just needs corrected. Gloria
