Maria (Maud) CUMMINGS BRENNELL, born in Brighton, Illinois in approximately 1842, died May 21, 1869 at the age of 27. She was survived by her husband, John M. BRENNELL born in Springfield, Clark, Ohio on Jan 22, 1841. John M. remarried on November 19, 1871 to Louisa FURRY both residents of Macoupin County. John and Louisa's first child, Eliza, was born in Carlinville May 5, 1872. John M. and Maria had resided for a while (1865-1868) in Missouri, after the war, in Moselle, Franklin, Missouri. (Where he applied for a soldier's pension. Company C, First Kentucky Infantry. ) Evidently Maud's health was what brought them to Carlinville, where John's sister, Corilla BRENNELL BRIGGS, resided. Corilla writes, later in life, on another pension document, that she was a childhood friend of Maria CUMMINGS, John's first wife, and that Maria had no children. John and his second wife and his children are all buried in Hammond, Indiana. Whereabouts of Corilla and first wife Maria are unknown to me at this time. If there is any relation between Maria (Maud) CUMMINGS and William O. CUMMINGS, perhaps more info can be found in Brighton, Illinois?
