    1. [ILMACOUP-L] Absolom C. DUNCAN 1791-1849
    2. For those few of you who care and don't already have info: According to military records at the National Archives, Absolom C. Duncan enlisted for 6 months in the VA militia at Norfolk in Capt Nathaniel Wilson's Company of Light Infantry, (also known as Capt Linn's company), 7th Regiment of VA militia August 16, 1814. He was discharged (the original discharge was in the widow's application folder) at Fort Barbour, Norfolk, VA on Feb 22, 1815 having served as a private. His widow's application for bounty lands and pension indicates he died of cholera near Staunton, Macoupin County, Illinois on July 31, 1849, attested to by Dr. James M Buck. The application as indicates that they had married in Lincoln County, December 26, 1816. His widow, Elizabeth, continued to live near Hornsby in Macoupin County, Illinois, through at least 1872 (her file is actually still open in 1882). Her brother was Nathan Duncan who was one of the early pioneers of Cahokia Township. (Yes, she married a cousin, apparently). Anyone know when she died or where either of them is buried?
